Kate Leavell

    Assistant Women's Lacrosse Coach
Kate Leavell joins the UCCS women’s lacrosse coach staff with a strong lacrosse pedigree. The Annapolis Md.-native played at Severna Park High School and Club lacrosse at University of Maryland.

Leavell served as the head coach at St.Pius X High School Varsity lacrosse in Atlanta Georgia, guiding the program to a third place state playoff finish. Also leading Lakeville North High School to a fourth place state playoff finish and was named the 2010 Minnesota high school Head Coach of the Year as well as having served as the Head Coach of the Georgia State University Club Lacrosse

She has also coached with travel teams including Eaglestix, Minnesota Elite, and Lax Monkey.

A National Coaches Development Trainer at US Lacrosse since 2012 and Positive Coaching Alliance Trainer, Leavell comes from a family of lacrosse players. Her father played at Cornell as her brother played at Roanoke and later club at University of Maryland.

She is also the author of Confessions of an Imperfect Coach and the Coaches Emergency Practice Guide.

Her children also play lacrosse, Michael (18) plays lacrosse at North Central University, Drew (17) high school senior and lacrosse goalie, and daughter Meredith (14) high school freshman goalie and defender. Her husband Sean is also a women’s lacrosse coach, a goalie coach and women’s high school and college rated official.

She earned an associate’s degree in exercise science and will graduate with a bachelor’s degree in the same field in the fall of 2017. Kate also holds numerous fitness certifications including personal training and corrective exercise. 

In her spare time, Kate loves to ski, mountain bike, read, watch movies, and travel.
