IAAC Minutes - Oct. 26, 2017

  • IAAC met on October 26, 2017. 
  • Director Gibson gave an update on the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) meetings, which were held in Golden.  The following issues were discussed:
    • A mental health initiative 
    • Concussion Management
      • Director Gibson outlined the program that UCCS follows for mental health screening in conjunction with the Health and Wellness Center on campus as well as the concussion management baseline testing done with UCCS student athletes.
      • Director Gibson updated the committee that Dixie State in St. George Utah will join the     RMAC in 2018
  • Laura Eurich Austin is the Co-Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR) reported that she and Co-FAR David Fenell attended the FAR meeting at the RMAC meetings where they split duties and represented UCCS.
  • Representative Chelsea Martus from the Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) reported on student athletic activities including working with Big Brothers an Big Sisters community service projects, food drives and the planning for the annual Boozar
  • Student Government Association (SGA) Representatives reported on several student advocate projects including sponsoring Mountain Lion Madness and getting better attendance at the games. There will be a Swayze celebration at the Nov 28 Men’s  Basketball game at Gallogly against Colorado College.  First responders will have free admissions
  • Old Business: Director Gibson and the Athletic Dept. developed a Policy and Procedure Manual and asked IAAC members for input on the manual
  • Next meeting scheduled for November 30, 2017
