DENVER, Colo. – The No. 3 University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's soccer team earned a 2-1 victory over No. 17 Regis with two late second-half goals.

  • All-Time Series: The Mountain Lions move to an all-time record of 23-41-9 after today's victory, and extend their winning streak to three consecutive games.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Mountain Lions were immediately put on the defense as Regis scored 11 minutes after the starting whistle with a stunning shot from Michael Ajagbe.
  • Regis earned another scoring opportunity with 32 minutes on the clock, as Jackson Hammons was left unmarked in the box and blasted a shot towards Hugo Sjoberg. However, the match continued on 1-0 since the shot just barely tipped the crossbar and bounced out of bounds. The Rangers managed to get another shot off 30 seconds later, but Sjoberg made a stunning diving save and prevented a 2-0 lead for Regis.
  • UCCS started out in their defensive half again after coming back from halftime, giving Sahar Golov a shooting opportunity that was luckily blocked by Sjoberg.
  • The tides finally changed for the Mountain Lions as Marcus Garcia beat a Regis defender 1-on-1 and skillfully placed a shot towards the backpost. While this attacking attempt fell short, it earned UCCS the wave of momentum they needed to turn the tables.
  • With nine minutes left in regulation, Eduardo Macias slipped a pass to Lucas Taitt at the top of the six. Completely open, Taitt blasted a left-footed shot into the center of the net and tied up the score 1-1. Six minutes later, a long ball floated towards Taitt in the left corner of the pitch, and he went on to serve a cross towards Eduardo Macias. Eduardo Macias connected on the back end and volleyed a shot towards the Ranger goalkeeper. While unsuccessful on the first attempt, Eduardo Macias managed to find the rebounded ball and bury his second shot into the lower left corner of the net.
  • As 90 minutes of play came to an end, the Mountain Lions sealed a 2-1 victory over Regis and closed out their non-conference matchups.
