Records: UCCS (4-0-1, 0-0-0 RMAC), UHH (3-0-1, 0-0-0 PWC)
Facility: Mountain Lion Stadium | Colorado Springs, Colo.
All-Time Series: This evening's matchup against the Vulcans was the 2nd in UCCS program history. UCCS is now 1-0-1 in the series.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Mountain Lions started off strong by earning a corner kick less than a minute after kickoff. Eduardo Macias managed to receive the ball once it was played short, spun a Vulcan defender and shot near-post. However, a stunning diving save by Tim Teicher kept the match at a 0-0 draw.
- After going four minutes without recording an attacking play, UHH finally connected a slew of passes in UCCS defensive territory before feeding the ball to their right winger, who sailed his cross over Hugo Sjoberg's hands and allowed the Mountain Lions to transition back up the field.
- With 14 minutes reflected on the scoreboard, UCCS found themselves with a single-goal advantage after Dillon Clarke slipped a pass to Cole Wearner, who went on to slot a one-touch shot into the lower right corner of the net.
- 20 minutes later, the Mountain Lions nearly scored again as Clarke connected with Yohann Fila for a fake shot move, instead choosing to find Jack Cook in a better position on top of the 18. Cook blasted a shot towards goal, but quick reflexes from Teicher denied the Mountain Lion's chance to lead by two.
- After regrouping at halftime, UCCS came out firing with a quick shot by Marcus Garcia, unfortunately going just wide of the post and out of bounds. Moments later, Clarke fed an early ball to Garcia on the right side of the field. 30 yards from goal, Teicher found himself wildly out of position, allowing Garcia to shoot from way downtown and earn the Mountain Lions a 2-0 lead over the Vulcans.
- With a more comfortable lead, UCCS eased up on the attacking pressure. UHH capitalized on that opportunity, and with 25 minutes remaining in the second half, Kristijan Bandur blasted a shot into the top right corner of the net. As the ball slipped past Hugo's fingertips, the Vulcans closed the scoring gap to a single goal.
- The remainder of the game resulted in back and forth action, with both teams logging shots and each goalkeepers recording a slew of impressive saves. However, the Vulcans could not find the back of the net, and UCCS collected their fourth win of the season.
