Mountain Lions’ Explosive Second Half Secures 93-74 Victory over Regis

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's basketball team made 14 three-point shots and scored 33 bench points to claim an 93-74 victory over Regis University.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Mountain Lions took an early 8-3 lead to start the first half as Derik Pranger started the game off with a three point make. Regis would then go on a six-point run to take the lead from UCCS before Gavin Carter took it back with a turn around jumper. From there, the Mountain Lions would make five more threes before the 10-minute mark of the first half, as Mario Williams Jr. hit two of his own.
  • An eight-point UCCS lead would soon shrink to three as RU guard Cooper Frith hit a three-point shot with just under seven minutes left in the first. Marzouq Abdur-Razaaq and Carter would combine for the next eight Mountain Lion Points to take a 39-34 lead. With the half winding down, UCCS would go on a 4-3 run to take a 43-37 lead into halftime.
  • The Mountain Lions opened the second half on a 13-3 run to take a 16-point lead and would run away with the game from there. UCCS went seven for 20 from three-point range with 33 bench points in the second while grabbing 26 rebounds and shooting 43.6 percent from the field. Shooting guard Alex Hurr was the leading scorer for the Mountain Lions in the second with 16 as Williams Jr. led in rebounds with six as UCCS took a 93-74 victory.
GAME STATISTICS
  • Abdur-Razzaq, Williams Jr., Hurr, and Tre Lucia were the four Mountain Lions to finish in double figures on Saturday as Hurr led the team with 18 points.
  • The Mountain Lions finished with 49 rebounds to the Rangers' 29 with Abdur-Razaaq and Brody Hull leading the team with nine.
  • The Mountain Lions shot 45.7 percent from the field (32-of-70), 36.8 percent from the three-point line (14-of-38) and 65.2 percent from the free throw line (15-of-23).
  • UCCS had 28 points off turnovers, 36 in the paint, 23 from second chances, 19 off fast breaks, and 33 from the bench.
           
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Hurr's 18 points were the second most that he has scored this season.
  • The Mountain Lions' 49 rebounds were the most they have had this season.
  • The Mountain Lions' 14 made three point shots tied for the most they have made this season, also occurring against Colorado Mesa University on December 4th.
