HOW IT HAPPENED
  • A Mountain Lion service error put UCCS in the hole early to start today's match, but the error was slight as the Mountain Lions went on a 10-2 run, highlighted by a kill and three straight aces from Nicole Martin.  The 10-2 run was capped off when Sydney Hyde and Rylee Pitts blocked an attack that gave the black and gold a 10-3 lead.  UCCS finished the set on a 6-1 run that saw Maylen Mitrovich serve up two aces and Kinley Gomez put down two kills to give UCCS the opening set win, 25-11.
  • Set two was nearly identical to the first set with the Mountain Lions snagging an early 6-1 lead behind two service aces from the Lumberjacks and two more kills from Hyde.  Using an 8-4 lead over Humboldt, the Mountain Lions rattled off five straight points highlighted by three consecutive aces from Mackenzie Ransom.  Mitrovich closed the door on the second set, notching four service aces in the final six points for UCCS as they claimed set two, 25-11.
  • UCCS found themselves in an unusual situation on Friday, trailing 4-1 to start the third set.  Two errors by Humboldt, along with kills from Hyde and Gomez and a Mitrovich ace, gave UCCS five straight points and a 6-4 lead.  Later in the set, Hyde put down a kill to push UCCS' lead to 18-13, forcing the Lumberjacks to call a timeout.  Coming out of the break, Gomez registered a kill and Hyde added a solo block for their largest lead of the set as the Mountain Lions cruised to a 25-21 set win and match sweep.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
