HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Mountain Lions came out of a 5-2 hole early in the game and went on an 8-0 run that was capped off by Amyah Moore Allen converting on a three-point play.  Adams State responded on the next possession with a three-pointer from Kilyani Anitileu to bring UCCS' lead down to 10-8 as Moore Allen and Breelyn Robinson each accounted for five points.  A 4-0 run by the black and gold pushed their lead to 14-10 before Adams State blocked a layup and made a transition bucket for a 14-12 UCCS lead with 3:07 left in the quarter.  Despite being called for four fouls within a 12-second span near the one-minute mark, the Mountain Lions took a 19-16 lead after one quarter of action.
  • Both teams settled into the game during the second quarter, slowing the pace down. Senior forward Maison White was held to one bucket in the first quarter but netted the first three points of the second stanza for UCCS.  Freshman guard Jayla Jackson Allen poked the ball away and went coast-to-coast to expand the Mountain Lions' lead to 24-18.  Amaya Snowden drained a three-pointer from the left side, just her second trey of the season, keeping UCCS with a comfortable advantage, 28-22.  Moore Allen, who had been held scoreless all quarter, hit a run away jumper off the glass with just four seconds left in the half, pushing the Mountain Lions lead to 34-26 as they entered halftime.
  • The Mountain Lions found their rhythm coming out of halftime as Gia Bradley started an 11-4 run with the first bucket of the half (8:41). UCCS's lead grew to 15 in the first minutes, taking a 45-30 lead at the media timeout.  Owning a 15-point lead, the Mountain Lions saw the lead dwindle as Christabel Longe netted six points to lead a 13-4 run in the final four minutes, cutting into the Mountain Lions' lead, 49-43 after three complete quarters.
  • A contentious fourth quarter started with the Mountain Lions having a 51-46 lead with 6:24 on the clock.  A 5-0 run by the home team knotted the game at 51-51 after the Grizzlies made 3-of-4 free throws.  Ellie Reynolds hit a monster three-pointer from the right wing to break a 53-53 tie.  With 71 ticks left in regulation, Moore Allen made a driving layup but the Grizzlies answered with a trey from Anitielu, tying the game at 60-60.  White secured a defensive board with 21 seconds remaining before head coach Misty Wilson called a timeout.  The Mountain Lions came out of the timeout throwing the ball into play from their bench.  UCCS worked the ball around the perimeter as the defense collapsed on Moore Allen, who found a wide-open Bradley on the left side of the arc as she drained the long ball for the game-winning bucket, 63-60.
