COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Junior Kailey Bond of the University of Colorado Colorado Springs softball team has been named the Week 7 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Softball Pitcher of the Week following a 3-0 performance inside the circle for the Mountain Lions last week.

Bond marks the third UCCS student-athlete to secure a weekly conference award this softball season, joining sophomore Laynee Case (Week 2) and freshman Tayler McCombs (Week 5).

A native of Pueblo, Colo., Bond was rock solid inside the circle across three games started for the Mountain Lions last week, posting a 3-0 record with a 1.56 ERA and 15 strikeouts. The junior hurler opened the week on a strong note as she pitched the first complete game shutout of her career in an 8-0 run-rule win over Fort Hays State University on Tuesday, March 11, allowing just a pair of hits and one walk while striking out five hitters in five innings of work. She continued her momentum on Sunday, March 16, in the opening game of the Mountain Lions' four-game conference set against New Mexico Highlands as she tossed seven complete innings while allowing just three earned runs and striking out five Cowgirls to help UCCS secure a 5-3 comeback victory. Bond returned to the circle as the starting pitcher for the team's final game of the series at New Mexico Highlands on Monday, March 18, and put forth another stellar outing, surrendering just one earned run and striking out five batters across six complete innings in an 11-1 run-rule win for the Mountain Lions.

Following her impressive week on the rubber, Bond lowered her season ERA to a team-leading mark of 4.35 and improved her record to 6-1 overall. The 5-foot-8 pitcher has now tossed five complete games this season and paces the Mountain Lions with 42 strikeouts across 54.2 innings pitched.

Bond and the Mountain Lions will return home this weekend for a crucial conference series against a Colorado Mesa University squad that enters the week with a 16-4 RMAC record and a slim 1.5 game lead over UCCS in the conference standings. The four-game set against the Mavericks will kick off with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 22, with first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m. from Mountain Lion Field.
