INSIDE THE MATCH UP
  • Final: UCCS 56, RU 67
  • Records: UCCS (17-11, 11-9 RMAC) | RU (16-12, 14-6 RMAC)
  • Facility | Location: Gallogly Events Center | Colorado Springs, Colo.
  • All-Time Series: UCCS moves to 16-44 in the all-time series against the Rangers.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Mountain Lions started down 4-0 in the first two minutes of action due to two early turnovers before senior guard Hannes Saar kicked off the scoring with a three after a defensive rebound by Derik Pranger. The first lead for UCCS came three minutes into the game when William Becker was fouled as he made a driving layup and converted the three-point play on the free throw to go up by a point.
  • Becker's three-point play would trigger an 8-0 UCCS run over the next three minutes where he would add four more points to his total to take a 13-5 lead. Down by eight points, the Rangers would begin chipping away at the lead and eventually tie the game at 19-19 with six minutes left to play in the first half off a layup by Chase Mayo Harmon. The next few minutes turned into a back-and-forth battle until a dunk by Becker gave the Mountain Lions a two-point lead that they would extend into four to take a 32-28 score into halftime.
  • The second half began much like the first came to an end, as both teams traded buckets for the first three minutes before Regis took their first lead since the beginning of the game on a three by Jalen Brown, making it a 43-42 game. As soon as the Rangers went up, the Mountain Lions went cold from the field as they shot 3-16 in close to a ten minute time period.
  • With five minutes left to go in the game, the Mountain Lions shooting woes left them down by eight points, matching their largest deficit of the night thus far. Ultimately, UCCS would not respond with a late-game comeback, as they hit just two of their nine final shots taken as Regis took a 67-56 victory.
