HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After two scoreless minutes, it was ASU that found the bottom of the basket to take a 2-0 lead after a layup. They continued to add to their lead making it 7-0 before UCCS scored their first basket. After a few minutes of action, Amaya Snowden picked up a successful three-point play after a layup and made free throw. Snowden would then go on to score the next two baskets for the Mountain Lions, ultimately cutting the lead to one with ASU on top 11-10. A wonderful finish from Mya Wilson finally knotted things up at 16-16 with just 30 seconds to go in the first quarter. The Grizzlies would knock down one more free throw to take a one-point lead 17-16 at the end of the opening quarter.
  • The second quarter opened up with traded baskets and eventually landed ASU still on top 21-16 with 6:30 left in the half. UCCS would respond with two huge baskets from Breelyn Robinson and Krystina Hagood. Moore Allen would then put the Mountain Lions on top 22-21 for the first time with two free throws. Moore Allen followed those free throws up with a driving layup to surpass the 1,000 career point mark and extend UCCS' lead 24-21. Another three-pointer from UCCS' Robinson had them on top 27-24 with 4:46 left. The Mountain Lions would go on their own little run to extend the lead to eight before Adam State's Angelline Nageak hit a three-pointer to cut it to five. The half would end before either team would score again with UCCS up 32-27.
  • ASU was the first to strike in the second half with a Brooke Rodgers three-pointer cutting the lead to 32-30. Free throws and jumpers were traded back and forth to tie the game up 36-36 with 6:40 left. Robinson hit the double-digit point mark for the game with a layup with just over five minutes left in the third quarter. A post-up jumper and two free throws after a foul from Taejhuan Hill of Adams State gave ASU a 47-40 lead with three minutes left in the quarter. A flurry of free throws at the end of the quarter had ASU up 54-46 with UCCS looking to stage an eight-pointer fourth-quarter comeback.
  • Moore Allen started the fourth quarter off with a bang as she hit a nice jumper to bring the Mountain Lions to within six. That was followed up with two Maison White layups making the deficit just two points with 8:50 to play. With 5:47 left, White would make one of her two free throws to cut the lead to one, 56-55. After a couple of empty possessions from both teams, Brooke Rodgers hit a big layup getting fouled in the process. She missed the free throw but nonetheless extended the lead to three 58-55. After both teams traded layups Moore Allen cut the lead back to one point with her 17th point of the night. The very next play she fouled out on the other end of the court, setting up an in-bounds play that Adams State executed well and pushed it back to three points once again. Another well-run set for ASU gave Rodgers a layup making the lead five and then the next possession she knocked down two free throws making it 66-59. With 1:15 left, Robinson scored after cutting through the lane, and seconds later, the Mountain Lions stole the ball back after an offensive foul. Kiiyani Anitielu would ice the game by going 2-for-2 at the line extending the lead to seven once again 68-61. White hit another jumper with 17 seconds left, but late game antics would have the game end at 71-65 with ASU on top.
