COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Sophomore Laynee Case of the University of Colorado Colorado Springs softball team has been voted as the Week 2 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Softball Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.

A second-year player from Loveland, Colo., Case picks up the first weekly conference award of her collegiate career after putting up a huge weekend inside the batter's box at the West Texas A&M Invitational in which she posted a .500 batting average (7-for-14) with a double, two home runs, six RBIs, and 14 total bases across four games played against Lone Star Conference competition. The sophomore infielder came up big for the Mountain Lions in their matchup against Texas A&M University Kingsville on Friday afternoon as she went 3-for-5 with a pair of clutch home runs and five RBIs. Case, who had just one home run in her collegiate career entering the weekend, launched a two-run home run in the top of the fifth inning against the Javelinas that brought the game even at seven before sending another two-run home run out of the park in the top of the eighth frame to give the Mountain Lions a 9-7 lead.

Throughout the first eight games of the 2025 campaign, Case holds an exceptional .407 batting average with three doubles, one triple, two home runs, and a team-leading 11 RBIs. Case also finds herself among the offensive league leaders for the RMAC in the early going of the season as she leads the conference in RBIs and total bases (22) while also sitting inside the top five for total hits and home runs.

After spending the first two weeks of the season on the road, Case and the Mountain Lions will return home for the first time this season to open their conference schedule with a four-game set against Colorado School of Mines on Feb. 15-16.
