HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Mountain Lions came out of the gate allowing two three pointers to the Aggies' Reggie Prudhomme and Aaron Jacob to go down 6-0 quickly. UCCS settled in and began chipping away at the early deficit and finally took the lead with 12 minutes to go in the half from a forceful driving layup by senior power forward Jesse Iweze who was fouled on the shot and hit his free throw to put the Mountain Lions up 11-10.
  • The Aggies climbed back to tie the game 18-18 with seven minutes to go on an alley-oop slam by Lavell Brodnex who converted the pass from Prudhomme. The next scoring play came from graduate forward William Becker who sank a turnaround jumper to put UCCS up 20-18. Becker's field goal sparked a 13-5 run to the end of the first half, capped off by a three pointer from Xavier Martinez to put the Mountain Lions up 31-23 entering halftime.
  • Much like the first half, the Aggies came out scoring via a three pointer by Jacob and a turnaround jumper from Jaxon Ingram to cut the Mountain Lions' lead to 3. UCCS answered back as Hannes Saar converted a three-point play after getting fouled in the paint on a lay up followed by a three from Santiago Ochoa to increase the point margin to eight.
  • UCCS would hold on to their lead for the remainder of the game, maintaining a margin of no less than three points and as high as 10 points. The Aggies attempted to foul in the final minute of action to make a late comeback, but Martinez ruined any hope as he knocked down four free throws and a layup to close out the game 71-64.
