HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first half of Sunday evening's match started slow with Fort Lewis controlling possession for the first 30 minutes. The first score of the game came in the 35th minute when Tomas Duenes of the Skyhawks sent a corner kick to the right side of the Mountain Lions' goal where Casey Stracher played the ball to Jacob Ramos who rebounded his own shot and found the back of the nylon on his second attempt to put Fort Lewis up 1-0. The next goal came just one minute later when senior midfielder Dani Barajas' shot was rebounded by Nick Walker on the right side of the net who netted the first goal for UCCS to tie the match 1-1.
- The final minute of the first half did not go the Mountain Lions' way as Jackson Million fouled Skyhawk Gabriel Legendre approximately 25 yards away on the left side of the field which prompted the center referee to stop the clock with three seconds left. Fabrizio Aguilera lined up for the shot and sent it towards the bottom right corner where the ball bounced untouched into the net to put Fort Lewis back up 2-1 going into the second.
- The second half of action featured two more goals for Fort Lewis, both by Anton Hjalmarsson in the 61st and 75th minutes. The first came off of a rebounded shot that was immediately sent back, and the second came in transition as Hjalmarsson beat his only defender, leaving green grass ahead before it was shot past goalkeeper Soren Russell to put the Skyhawks up 4-1.
- Much like the first UCCS goal, their second came as a response just a minute after a Fort Lewis score when a shot by Walker smacked the top goalpost and landed in front of Barajas who did not miss his attempt to push the deficit to two with 14 minutes remaining. The Mountain Lions made a strong push at the end but were unable to come back as the match ended 4-2 in favor of Fort Lewis.
