Mountain Lions Shooting Struggles Lead to 78-56 Loss Against Lubbock Christian

LUBBOCK, Texas. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team struggled to find their shot in Saturday night's 78-56 loss against Lubbock Christian University, shooting just 34.5 percent from the field.

  • All-Time Series: This was the seventh matchup between the Mountain Lions and Lady Chaps since 1989, with LCU taking a 6-1 all-time series advantage.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • Rylie Ottmann got Saturday afternoon's road contest started for the Mountain Lions, driving through the lane and laying it up for a bucket. The two squads played evenly to a 7-7 start, but a Lady Chap's three-pointer got LCU started on a 15-1 run, taking a commanding 22-8 lead. An Ottmann jumper lessened the UCCS deficit, but the Lady Chaps would head into the second quarter up 22-10.
  • Ottmann opened the scoring again to start the second frame, hitting a shot from beyond the arc. Maison White used her height and post skills to her advantage, scoring 10 straight UCCS points by herself. Down 32-23, Jayla Jackson-Allen hit a fast-break three-pointer after Breelyn Robinson poked away the ball, making the score 32-26, LCU. The Lady Chaps closed the first half strong, holding a 36-28 lead. Only four Mountain Lions found the bottom of the net in the first half, with White recording 14 points, Ottmann tallying eight, Jackson-Allen producing four, and Amayah Moore-Allen with two points in the first half.
  • The second half began with UCCS pulling themselves within seven points after a jumper from Robinson and a three-pointer from Emily Vidal to make it 40-33. LCU was unphased and responded immediately to a 10-0 run. The Lady Chaps held onto their significant advantage, leading by as many as 19 points (55-36) with 3:41 remaining in the third quarter. LCU maintained a comfortable distance for the remainder of the third, taking a 60-41 lead into the fourth quarter.
  • The Lady Chaps didn't allow UCCS to cut into their big lead in the fourth, winning the final frame 18-15 and the game 78-56.
 
GAME STATISTICS 
  • White led the game with 23 points and 12 rebounds. She also shot 8-of-13 from the field but struggled from the line, shooting 7-of-14.
  • UCCS struggled with shooting across the board tonight, going 19-55 (34.5 percent) from the field, 3-16 (18.8 percent) from beyond the arc, and 15-29 (51.7 percent) from the free throw line.
  • The Lady Chaps, on the other hand, shot 42 percent from the field (21-50), 50 percent from three (8-16), and a blazing 93.3 percent from the charity stripe (28-30).
  • LCU also won the battle in rebounds (43-30), assists (13-6), and blocks (4-1), but UCCS forced the Lady Chaps to turn the ball over 18 times to their 13 giveaways.  
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE 
  • With her 12 rebounds in tonight's loss, Maison White has hit the 700-rebound threshold, making her and Brittany Hernandez (2015-17) the only two Mountain Lions in program history with 700 or more rebounds. Hernandez sits at the top with 751 career rebounds, while White climbs to 701, remaining second all-time.
  • White's 23 points and 12 rebound performance is her third double-double of the season and her 30th in her career.

  • Next time out, UCCS will face the Air Force Academy in an exhibition on Tuesday, Nov. 19, at 6:30 p.m. The Air Force will host the exhibition at the AFA Cadet Fieldhouse at USAF Academy, Colo.
