HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Rylie Ottmann got Saturday afternoon's road contest started for the Mountain Lions, driving through the lane and laying it up for a bucket. The two squads played evenly to a 7-7 start, but a Lady Chap's three-pointer got LCU started on a 15-1 run, taking a commanding 22-8 lead. An Ottmann jumper lessened the UCCS deficit, but the Lady Chaps would head into the second quarter up 22-10.
  • Ottmann opened the scoring again to start the second frame, hitting a shot from beyond the arc. Maison White used her height and post skills to her advantage, scoring 10 straight UCCS points by herself. Down 32-23, Jayla Jackson-Allen hit a fast-break three-pointer after Breelyn Robinson poked away the ball, making the score 32-26, LCU. The Lady Chaps closed the first half strong, holding a 36-28 lead. Only four Mountain Lions found the bottom of the net in the first half, with White recording 14 points, Ottmann tallying eight, Jackson-Allen producing four, and Amayah Moore-Allen with two points in the first half.
  • The second half began with UCCS pulling themselves within seven points after a jumper from Robinson and a three-pointer from Emily Vidal to make it 40-33. LCU was unphased and responded immediately to a 10-0 run. The Lady Chaps held onto their significant advantage, leading by as many as 19 points (55-36) with 3:41 remaining in the third quarter. LCU maintained a comfortable distance for the remainder of the third, taking a 60-41 lead into the fourth quarter.
  • The Lady Chaps didn't allow UCCS to cut into their big lead in the fourth, winning the final frame 18-15 and the game 78-56.
