HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Mountain Lions made quick work on offense in the second minute when a corner kick by Dani Barajas found freshman defender Luke Noameshie on the far side for a leaping right footed goal to build an early 1-0 lead. UCCS continued to dominate possession without converting any shots until Barajas drew a foul to force a penalty kick that he sent into the bottom right of the Hardrockers' goal to extend the lead to 2-0 for the Mountain Lions.
- Much like the first 45 minutes, the second half of action featured a strong offensive performance for the Mountain Lions. The first score of the half began with Miles Seminario threading a pass through the Hardrockers' defense to find junior forward Nick Walker in front of the goal for a quick shot into the nylon to provide a 3-0 cushion for UCCS in the 66th minute.
- The Hardrockers found their first true scoring opportunity in the 73rd minute when Noameshie fouled SDM's Sawyer Rueckert for a penalty kick taken by Hayden Jaramillo that ricocheted off the top crossbar to keep the shutout intact for the Mountain Lions.
- The Mountain Lions kept their foot on the pedal after the missed penalty kick by SDM when freshman midfielder Hugo Nordenberg sent a cross from the top of the 18-yard box to the far side for a header by a fully horizontal diving Sean Belzer to increase the lead for UCCS to four in the 78th minute. Just two minutes later, Nordenberg was fouled to force a penalty kick taken by junior forward Cole Venable that he sent past a sprawling SDM goalkeeper to close out the 5-0 victory.
