HOW IT HAPPENED
- Maison White netted all six of her first half points on three possessions for the Mountain Lions after snagging two offensive rebounds and putting them back for layups. White's second offensive rebound putback gave UCCS their first lead of the night, 6-5. Amyah Moore Allen would later knot the game at 8-8 after a crossover at the top of the paint that led to a left-handed layup. With the score tied at 8-8 after the first media timeout, the Rangers would go on an 8-2 run that featured two three-pointers. Two free throws from Moore Allen and a layup from Jessica Nation cut into the Rangers lead as the home team took a 16-14 lead after one quarter of action.
- Regis opened the second stanza outscoring the Mountain Lions 8-2, but the Mountain Lions chipped away at the Rangers eight-point lead (24-16). Moore Allen jumped in the lane on the defensive end of the court for a steal and took it all the way down for two points to start an 8-0 UCCS run. Rylie Ottmann found Mya Wilson on an in-bounds play from the end line, followed by another coast-to-coast steal and bucket from Moore Allen before Ottmann tied the game at 24-24 after driving from each side of the lane for bucket. The Rangers had the last say in the half as Erin Fry drained a three-pointer with one second left to give Regis a 29-26 lead entering intermission.
- The third quarter started with the blue and yellow squad going on an 8-2 run to take their largest lead of the game, 37-28, less than three minutes into the second half. UCCS continued to battle the Rangers and chipped away at the lead relying heavily on driving the lane and close-range shots. Moore Allen and Wilson hit two straight layups to bring UCCS within five points, 37-32. A few possessions later, Briana Knabe hit a mid-ranger jumper for her first points of the night before Ottmann snagged a defensive rebound and hit Moore Allen for a layup as the Mountain Lions were within one possession of the Rangers, 39-27, nearing the end of the third period.
- Facing a four-point deficit to start the final stanza, the Mountain Lions took control and went on a 10-0 run to regain their first lead over the Rangers since the first quarter. Moore Allen led the charge with six points during the run as Ottmann and Emily Vidal chipped in two points each. Vidal capped off the run with a layup that gave UCCS a 47-41 advantage. The Rangers did not net their first point of the fourth quarter more than four minutes into the period. A free throw from Regis opened the flood gates for the home team as they used a 16-0 run to go up 10 points over UCCS, 57-47, and put the game away. The Rangers made 8-of-10 free throws and hit two from downtown while forcing the Mountain Lions into three turnovers during the double-digit run. Two free throws from Moore Allen and a layup from White finished the scoring for the Mountain Lions as they fell on the road, 59-51.
