Series: Western Oregon and UCCS squared off for the first time Thursday night, with the Wolves taking the lead in the all-time series 1-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Wolves wasted no time getting started as Chloe Smith continued her hot start, scoring her third goal of the young season in just the fifth minute of the match, beating Isabella Whitmore off a free kick in the Mountain Lions defensive third.
  • UCCS' first quality chance came from an impressive individual effort from sophomore midfielder Anna Vince in the 16th, who beat three defenders and fought through several fouls to get inside the six-yard box. Unfortunately, the WOU keeper Sophia Pierce was ready and made the save.
  • UCCS and Western Oregon would exchange possession for the remainder of the half, with few promising chances from either team, as Western Oregon would defend their advantage all the way to the halftime whistle.
  • The Wolves would come out quickly again in the second half as it was Smith once again in the fifth minute getting deep into the UCCS final third, but her shot would sail high, harmlessly out for a Mountain Lions goal kick. Smith would return just two minutes later for WOU, as she placed a shot towards the lower left corner of the frame, but UCCS keeper Isabella Whitmore was there for the stop.
  • A free kick for the Mountain Lions in the 77th minute saw Anna Vince put her foot through a shot which met the crossbar in the middle of the frame, but freshman Taylynn Levi was ready for the rebound, as she put the ball into the back of the net, scoring her first collegiate goal, and equalizing for UCCS.
  • Western Oregon wasn't finished on the offensive front, as a last-gasp effort saw, once again, Chloe Smith win a race with Jade Kinsey and fire a shot past Whitmore with just 39 seconds remaining. The score proved to be the difference as Western Oregon escaped with the win.
