HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Mountain Lions started the game on a roll as they had an 8-2 lead as Breelyn Robinson nailed a three pointer with the assist coming from Alexa Dominguez. The Yellow Jackets responded to end the first quarter on a 14-7 run, commanding a 16-12 lead going into quarter number two.
  • UCCS got their second quarter started as Dominguez hit a turnaround jumper with an assist coming from Emily Hovasse. That bucket started a nine to nothing run for the Mountain Lions and resulted in UCCS taking the lead 21-19 after a Maison White jumper with just under four minutes to go in the first half. The Yellow Jackets responded with a few of their own baskets, but UCCS was able to head into halftime with a 29-27 lead.
  • UCCS was able to go on another run to start the second half and were up as much as six points with 2:37 left to go in the third quarter. BHSU kept the game close by going on a 7-2 run to end the quarter resulting in the Mountain Lions having a 40-39 lead heading into the final frame.
  • UCCS maintained the lead for the first minute of the fourth quarter until Yellow Jackets guard, Niki Van Wyk, who led both teams in scoring tonight with 20 points, nailed a three to give BHSU a lead that they would hold for the rest of the game. The Mountain Lions were down by as much as eight in the fourth quarter but fought hard to keep the game close.
  • Agar Farres made a tough contested layup with 22 seconds remaining to cut the Yellow Jacket's lead to 58-56. BHSU would then make one free throw and the Mountain Lions were given one more possession to attempt to send the game into overtime. Down three with six seconds remaining, UCCS got two nice looks to tie the game but ended up coming just short.
