HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Griffins netted the first two points of Friday's contest before Hagood gave UCCS a 4-2 lead from two straight buckets. Both teams traded baskets but the Griffins held a slight 12-9 lead five minutes into the contest. The Mountain Lions looked to Hagood to spark momentum and she did after draining a three-pointer followed by a driving layup from Amyah Moore Allen to put UCCS back on top, 14-12. Moore Allen repeated on another driving layup the next trip down the court before Jessica Nation sealed the first quarter action with a jump shot to give the black and gold an 18-16 advantage through the first period.
- The second stanza started with Hagood connecting with Mattie Busby for her first points of the night before Rylie Ottmann found the bottom of the net for a quick four points and a 22-16 UCCS lead. A 7-0 run by Westminster brought the home team within one point of the Mountain Lions at the 6:51 mark, 24-23, but UCCS responded with a 5-0 run of their own that featured an Alexa Dominguez layup and a trey from Hagood to extend UCCS' lead back to six points, 29-23. Two layups from Hagood and Maison White highlighted by an Ottmann three-pointer boosted UCCS to a 36-31 lead at the half.
- The Mountain Lions owned the second half, outscoring the home team 39-20, including 27 points in the third quarter alone and holding the Griffins to just eight points in the final quarter. Vidal netted her first points of the game to open the second half with a long ball. On the ensuing possession, White snagged a steal that led to her own bucket. A few minutes later Vidal sparked an 8-2 run with her second trey of the game before Moore Allen finished the run with a layup and her own three-pointer, giving UCCS a quick 49-35 lead that led to a convincing 75-51 win.
