Balanced Attack Leads UCCS to Dominant 85-53 Win over Baptist Bible College

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – All 14 Mountain Lions from the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team saw significant playing time Friday night as UCCS routed Baptist Bible College by more than 30 points, 85-53.  The Mountain Lions, who have now won two of their last three games, improved their record to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in home games.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • UCCS controlled the tempo of the game from the opening tip.  Maison White won the tip-off and scored the first four points of the game.  Baptist Bible answered with back-to-back layups that knotted the game at 4-4, but White scored the sixth straight point for UCCS to break the tie as the Mountain Lions held the lead for the remainder of the game.   Breelyn Robinson drove the lane for a layup that sparked a 12-2 run by the home team.  Robinson added another basket and two more from White as UCCS' lead grew to 12, 20-8, in the opening stanza.  BBC hit a three in the final seconds of the first quarter to bring UCCS' lead down to eight points, 26-18 after 10 minutes of action.
  • The black and gold continued to put pressure on the Patriots in the second period and used another large run to grow their lead to 17 points.  Krystina Hagood knocked down a three-pointer on the Mountain Lions second possession of the quarter, before Amyah Moore Allen hit a jumper in the paint followed by another jumper from Hagood.  Carrah Davis capped off the 9-0 run with two made free throws as UCCS pulled away from BBC, 37-20.  UCCS finished the opening half strong with six straight points before the Patriots again nailed a three-pointer for the final basketball of the quarter as the Mountain Lions took a 49-29 lead into halftime.
  • UCCS' dominance continued in the second half as they outscored BBC, 36-24.  The Mountain Lions, who scored at least 18 points in each quarter, forced BBC to commit six turnovers in the third period and converted them into four points.  Hagood accounted for eight of the Mountain Lions' 18 points in the third period.  Leading 67-44 heading into the final stanza, Moore Allen scored seven of her 15 points in the final quarter in less than four minutes of action.  Mya Wilson netted the final bucket of the game with 41 seconds remaining that gave UCCS their largest lead of the night, 85-53 (32 points).
               
GAME STATISTICS
  • Hagood finished the contest with a game high 18 points and added five steals and two dimes.
  • White and Moore Allen each poured in 15 points.  White made all but two of her nine field goals attempts and added a game high seven rebounds.  Moore Allen dished out a game high five dimes and netted 4-of-9 from the floor and 6-of-10 from the charity stripe.
  • Ottmann converted on five of eight field goals for 10 points and pulled in four rebounds to go with a game high five steals and three assists.
  • The Mountain Lions shot a solid 52.3 percent from the field behind 34-of-65 field goals. 
  • UCCS out-rebounded the Patriots, 48-29, and forced BBC to commit 24 turnovers.
  • The Patriots were led by Abby Woolsey and Josie Sullivan who each registered 13 points.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • The last time UCCS scored at least 85 points was on Nov. 27, 2021 against University of the Southwest (87 points).
  • Numerous Mountain Lions set career highs tonight against Baptist Bible.  Hagood's 18 points and six made field goals set career marks while Mya Wilson tallied career highs in points (six) and rebounds (five).
  • Moore Allen's five assists and Ottmann's five steals each went down in the scorebook as career highs.  Davis scored her first points of her collegiate career at UCCS, netting three points, all of which came from the free throw line.
  • As a team, the Mountain Lions notched multiple season highs, including points (85), field goals made (34), field goals attempted (65), rebounds (45) and steals (13).
  • Defensively, UCCS forced a season high 24 turnovers and held BBC to a season low 53 points.

  • The Mountain Lions will close out the non-conference portion of their schedule tomorrow night when they play host to Eastern New Mexico University at 5 p.m.
