Men's Basketball Cruises to Thirty Point Win Over Navajo Tech

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's basketball team cruises to a 101-71 win over Navajo Technical University for a Black Friday win.

  • All-Time Series: The Mountain Lions and Skyhawks faced off for the first time this afternoon.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Mountain Lions started off slow in the first half, with Navajo Tech scoring seven of the first nine points in the game, claiming a 7-2.
  • UCCS went on a scoring spree with just over ten minutes left in the first half, capitalized by a Jesse Iweze fast break jumper to tie the game at 15. The Mountain Lions and Skyhawks would wrestle for the lead as the game neared half time, but again it was the Mountain Lions who would earn a scoring run and take a 40-31 lead to the locker room at the break.
  • The Mountain Lions wouldn't look back in the second half, scoring 61 points in the second frame and running away with the 101-71 victory behind a breakout offensive performance.
               
GAME STATISTICS
  • Jesse Iweze led the Mountain Lions with the team's first double-double of the season, flushing 14 points and grabbing 12 boards.
  • Xavier Martinez continues to pace the UCCS offense as he scored 16 for the Mountain Lions, also securing 7 rebounds, and dealing 7 assists.
  • Mac Stodart was dialed in in Salt Lake, hitting 5 of 9 shots from the field, including a three pointer.
  • Noah Baca played 30 minutes which is the most of any Mountain Lion Friday afternoon, in his time on the floor Baca scored nine points and reeled in 4 boards.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • The Mountain Lions win the first ever matchup between the two programs.
  • First time since November 18th of last season that UCCS has scored 100 points in a game.
  • UCCS wins their first neutral site game of the season.
