Mountain Lions Wreak Havoc From Long Range to Help Secure 91-79 Win Over ASU

ALAMOSA, Colo. – University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's basketball put on a shooting display from beyond the arc Saturday night making the most three-pointers by any RMAC men's or women's team this season (18) as the Mountain Lions downed Adams State University on the road by a final score of 91-79.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Final: UCCS 91, ASU 79
Records: UCCS (12-4, 6-3 RMAC), ASU (3-12, 1-8 RMAC)
Location: Plachy Hall | Alamosa, Colo.
Series: UCCS leads the all-time series against Adams State, 23-32, with the Mountain Lions winning the last four matchups.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
It was the Adams State Grizzlies who started off fast by jumping out to an early 7-0 lead over the Mountain Lions in the opening minutes but UCCS quickly bounced back scoring nine straight points for a 9-0 run that saw the Mountain Lions lighting it up from long range with three treys as two came off the fingers of Jon'il Fugett and Jezza McKenzie owning the other for their first lead of the game, 9-7.
• UCCS' scoring run from beyond the arc was only a small glimpse of what was to come in the first half as both teams traded baskets before Fugett made his third three-pointer followed by Logan Bracamonte adding a trey of his own to push the Mountain Lions ahead 17-11 at the 14:06 mark.
• The Mountain Lions kept at the Grizzlies by generating another big run as freshman Jayden Washington scored his first points of the game to ignite a 10-0 run that Mac Stodart closed out two and a half minutes later to extend the UCCS lead out to 34-18 with 6:32 left.
• UCCS continued to let it fly from beyond the arc as the first half progressed with Fugett and the rest of the sharp shooting Mountain Lions piling it on by climbing to 17-point lead at half that was emphasized by Fugett's sixth three-pointer of the game as he registered the steal and turned into three points right before the buzzer. Fugett finished a perfect 6-of-6 from long range for 18 points as the Mountain Lions took a commanding 53-36 lead into the locker room.
• In the second half, ASU found new life and embarked on a 10-2 start the half with the Grizzlies' Kolby Walker being responsible for eight of those points that cut the Mountain Lion deficit down to nine points at 55-46.
• UCCS managed to recapture their double-digit lead with Fugett and Bracamonte continuing to do damage from long range by reaching 25 points and 13 points, respectively, as David Jabedo laid in an easy two points at 13:51 to take the 67-50 advantage.
• But ASU kept chipping away as the Grizzlies also took to long range and worked the Mountain Lions' lead down to seven points with 3:51 remaining as an impressive 8-of-13 from three-point kept ASU in reach, 84-77.
• Bracamonte then came out of the media timeout ready to fire and drained a trey for the 10-point Mountain Lion lead to surpass 20 points for the game, 87-71. Washington followed up by helping close out the win by swiping two steals and scoring UCCS' final four points to secure the 91-79 victory.
