HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Mountain Lions came out and dominated the first half of play off 60 percent of shooting from the field that started with Jon'il Fugett making his first of seven scoring appearances off a layup for the early lead at 17:50, 2-0.
• UCCS proceeded to put together an 11-2 scoring run just a minute and a half later where a perfect 5-of-5 from the field came from Fugett, William Becker, and Beni Fungula who all found the bottom of the net as Becker accounted for six points to push UCCS further out front over Chadron State, 15-4.
• After trailing as much as 14 points, the Eagles began to generate some offense by generating a 6-0 run of their own that cut the UCCS lead down to eight points with 6:33 remaining in the half. But Jezza McKenzie came out the enusing position to put a quick end to the CSC momentum as the sophomore guard notched the steal and turned it into three points on the other end by finding an open Fugett who drained the trey to jump back out to a double-digit lead, 28-15.
• UCCS came to outscore CSC 11-8 for the remaining five minutes with Becker and Fugett heading into the locker room with 11 and 14 points respectively, as the Mountain Lions held a commanding 39-23 lead after limiting the Eagle offense to 25.6 percent shooting from the field.
• In the second half, Fungula got things started for the Mountain Lions with a hard driving layup for two points with the Sweden native getting the offense going once again as a 13-2 run that lasted over four minutes and included two Logan Bracamonte three-pointers gave UCCS their largest lead of the game at that point, 52-25 with 14:08 left to play.
• The Eagles had no answer for the Mountain Lions who continued to get the job done from all over the floor with Jayden Washington coming off the bench to put up 11 second half points, including three treys, as UCCS climbed up to a 29-point lead at 6:33, giving the Mountain Lions their largest lead of the game at 74-45.
