Men’s Basketball Downed in Chadron By Eagles, 78-56

CHADRON, Neb. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's basketball team fell to the Chadron State College Eagles on the road Friday night as strong shooting from CSC resulted in a 78-56 Mountain Lion loss.

Series: UCCS leads the all-time series with a favorable 29-15 against CSC with the Eagles snapping a six-game Mountain Lion win streak.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Sophomore Mac Stodart came out firing and was responsible for the game's first five points after a made layup in the first possession followed by a three-pointer from a Jon'il Fugett dime gave UCCS what was their largest lead of the game, 5-0 at 18:25.
• But the Eagles stepped in and started to heat up as Chadron State's Isaiah Wyatt took over for four and half minutes by scoring 14 points in what came to be a 17-4 run where CSC shot 6-of-7 from the field and 3-of-3 from beyond the arc to give Chadron State a 17-9 lead with 13:59 left to play.
• The Mountain Lions kept at the Eagles and managed to keep the game within nine points after the Eagles led as much as 12 points through 12 minutes of play as Logan Bracamonte and Jezza McKenzie each made their pair of free throws to bring the game to 29-20 with 7:29 left to play.
• CSC continued to make their shots for the remainder of the half and began to separate themselves from the Mountain Lions as Wyatt finished with 18 points while the Eagles shot 83.3 percent from the free throw line, 62.5 percent from beyond the arc, and 56.3 percent from the field for a 46-29 advantage at halftime.
• In the second half, Noah Baca, Beni Fungula, and Keegan Phillips all worked their way into he scoring column in the first 10 minutes with two, four, and two points, respectively. But the Eagles' offense kept finding the bottom of the net and increased UCCS' deficit to 24 points at 63-39 with 10:24 remaining.
• The Mountain Lions managed to generate a couple offensive spurts through the last 10 minutes to try and take momentum with a 7-0 run at the 8:59 mark and 6-0 run with 15:51 left to play but the Eagles were consistent in their shooting and flipped 13 UCCS turnovers into 15 points, resulting in the 78-56 final.

STATS FROM THE DAY:
The Mountain Lions were outshot by Chadron State from the field (53.4-43.1 percent), from long range (44.4-22.2 percent). UCCS was perfect from the charity stripe after going 8-of-8.
CSC turned 13 UCCS turnovers into 15 points as the Eagles also held the advantage in points in the paint, 40-32.
Mac Stodart was the leading Mountain Lion scorer Friday night with 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting with Jon'il Fugett posting a team-high five rebounds and three assists.
• Chadron State had three double-digit scorers with Isaiah Wyatt netting 20 points and Josh Robinson registering the double-double off of 15 points and 11 rebounds.
•  Jayden Washington and Stodart combined for UCCS' four three-pointers as Washington finished 1-of-4 with Stodart going 3-of-6.
• On the defensive side of the ball, Beni Fungula recorded a team-best two steals and one block.

BEYOND THE BOX:
 UCCS had their lowest number of rebounds on the season with 26 rebounds.
Mac Stodart notched his ninth game of making more than one three-pointer.
The Mountain Lions are now 5-3 when committing 13 or less turnovers in a single game for the season.

UCCS Men's Basketball stays on the road where they'll travel to Lakewood, Colo. for a 7 p.m. game against Colorado Christian University tomorrow night.
