HOW IT HAPPENED

  • UCCS saw two early chances in the second half, following a corner kick, but both were blocked by the Cougars defense.
  • The action was back and forth until a CCU foul in the 83rd minute gave the Mountain Lions a golden opportunity, taking a free kick just outside the box. Raineri rocketed a shot that ricocheted off the left post, finding its way to Marvin Putu who blasted the ball into the top right corner, giving UCCS a 1-0 lead.
  • The Cougars mounted one final attack, bringing all 11 into the box for a corner kick. UCCS' defense held strong, with Putu sending the ball down field for Raineri who scored on the empty net to bring the game to its eventual final of 2-0.
