HOW IT HAPPENED
- Three fouls were called in the first minute of action before Bo Shaffer knocked the ball away for a steal that led to a jumper from Sophie Abela to give UCCS a 2-0 lead. Two free throws and a field goal by FLC gave the Skyhawks a four-point swing and a 4-2 lead just over two minutes into the game.
- The Mountain Lions regained the lead for the second time followed by another steal from Shaffer that led to a Maison White bucket. After a bad pass by FLC, Jessica Nation capitalized for a layup to give UCCS a 7-4 lead with 5:54 remaining in the opening quarter. UCCS was held scoreless the remainder of the quarter as the Skyhawks closed out the quarter on a 7-0 run to take an 11-7 lead. UCCS forced the Skyhawks to turn the ball over 10 times in the first quarter, leading to all seven of the Mountain Lions first stanza points.
- FLC kept the pressure on in the second quarter and snagged their largest lead of the game, 21-10, with 6:20 left in the first half.
- White and Ines Latapia netted back-to-back driving layups including an and-one on Latapia that cut into FLC's lead, 21-15. Fort Lewis' lead grew back to nine, 25-16 at the 3:34 mark but UCCS outscored FLC 4-1 in the final minutes of the half. Abela and Ellie Moore both made the front end of their free throws before Moore found a cutting Alexa Dominguez with 13 seconds left as UCCS trailed the Skyhawks by six at halftime, 26-20.
- After an eight-point deficit early in the third quarter, 32-24, the Mountain Lions began their comeback to tie the game at 42-42 after three quarters.
- Nation opened the final stanza scoring the first five points behind a trey and a driving layup, giving UCCS a 47-42 lead, marking their first lead of the game since the 6:14-minute mark in the first quarter. Shortly after Nation scored five straight points, Abela stole the ball and made a jumper for a 49-43 lead. After a FLC counter bucket, Abela found Moore in the paint to boost UCCS' lead back to six, 51-45.
- FLC answered as Sydney Candelaria score four of the next five points, cutting the Mountain Lions lead down to one, 53-52, with 16 ticks left on the clock. With fouls to give, FLC fouled UCCS four times in the span of seven seconds to put the Mountain Lions at the line. Jasmine Jeffcoat gave UCCS a 55-52 lead after draining both of her free throws with eight seconds left. A three-point desperation attempt to tie the game fell short for FLC as the Mountain Lions posted their third straight win over the Skyhawks.
