HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Mavericks came out the gate hot, going on an 8-2 run that included two three pointers made in the first two minutes of the game. The Mountain Lions then responded by going on a 14-2 run where their defensive presence was felt, forcing the Mavericks to shoot 1-of-10 from the field while forcing three turnovers as well.
  • The second quarter saw both teams locking in on defense as UCCS forced CMU to shoot 4-of-13 (30.8 percent) from the field and the Mavericks forcing the Mountain Lions to shoot 5-of-16 (31.3 percent) from the field. This resulted in UCCS having a 27-22 lead going into the half.
  • The game would remain close to start the third quarter with both teams trading baskets back and forth. That was until Amyah Moore Allen made a and one layup, nailing the free throw and putting UCCS up 40-31 with 3:24 left to go in the quarter. From that moment on, the Mountain Lions went on a 10-2 run and were up big heading into the final quarter.
  • The final quarter was more of the same as UCCS responded to any basket the Mavericks would make. At the 6:15 mark in the fourth quarter, Ines Latapia made layup that assisted by Sophie Abela, who collected nine assists overall in tonights contest.
  • The Mountain Lions lead climbed up all the way to a game high 26-point advantage after Alexa Dominguez hit a nice midrange step back jumper coming off an assist from freshman Riley Ottmann. The Mavericks would hit a few more baskets to finish the game but were well out of reach, resulting in the 20-point victory by UCCS.
