Mountain Lions Take Down Cougars in Three on Senior Day

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team wrapped up their regular season by defeating the Colorado Christian Cougars in straight sets. The Mountain Lions honored their five graduating seniors prior to the contest: Jordyn Kinsey, Hannah Ammerman, Madison McIntosh, Emily Ettel, and Julia Geiger.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Joei Barela got the scoring going early, serving up one of the Mountain Lion's three first set aces. UCCS never trailed in the set, registering ten kills and two blocks. The Mountain Lions also recorded a perfect reception percentage on their way to securing a one set lead.
  • Following an early 0-2 deficit, Raegen Emery put down one of her five kills in the set. Four straight attack errors by the Cougars shifted the momentum back in favor of the home team, giving UCCS a 9-6 lead that they would never relinquish. The Mountain Lions attacked at an impressive .324 percent, with three different players recording at least four kills in the set. Reilly Babcock added two aces and a kill of her own, propelling UCCS to a two set to none lead.
  • UCCS relied on a balanced attack in what would become the match's final set, seeing five different players recording at least two kills. With the game knotted at 20, the Mountain Lions called on their experience to put the match out of reach. A kill from Geiger followed by two thunderous kills from Ammerman lead to UCCS scoring the final five points of the set, giving the Mountain Lions a three set sweep in their final home game of the 2022 season.

MATCH STATISTICS
  • Geiger had the hot hand tonight, registering a match high 12 kills. Ammerman pitched in ten kills of her own to go with ten digs, one assist and an ace.
  • Kinsey paced the match in digs, with 16. She also added four assists and an ace.
  • Barela recorded a match high 16 assists, along with eight digs and an ace.
  • Babcock served up a match high three aces and assisted on 13 UCCS kills.
     
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • With her performance tonight, Kinsey is now tied with Laura Meeter for third most digs in UCCS history (1,688).
  • Babcock finishes the regular season with second most assists by a freshman in program history (674).
  • Babcock is tied for fourth most aces by a freshman in a single season (38).

  • The Mountain Lions will await the final scores of the remaining RMAC volleyball games to determine their final standing for postseason play.
