HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Reilly Babcock set up Raegen Emery and Tori Perduk for kills and then added a kill herself to bolt the Mountain Lions to a 3-1 lead in the opening stanza.  An 8-8 tie didn't last long as UCCS rattled off three straight points and never trailed in the set.  Emery blocked a Mountaineer attack to give UCCS their largest lead, 19-14.  Emery finished the set with her fourth kill to give the Mountain Lions a 25-22 win.
  • UCCS started the second set strong again, snagging a 5-1 lead before Jordyn Kinsey served an ace to bolster the Mountain Lions lead to five, 8-3.  For the first time of the night, the Mountaineers led UCCS, 13-12, but the lead was quickly disintegrated by a 4-0 run from the visiting team.  Late in the set, Emery found the hardwood on an attack to give UCCS a 24-22 lead.  Western answered with their own kill, forcing UCCS to call a timeout.  Following the 75-second break, Medlin put the set away with a kill by Joei Barela's assist, giving UCCS a 2-0 lead in the match.
  • UCCS found themselves in a 2-0 deficit to start set three that featured five ties and three lead changes.  Babcock connected with Ammerman to break a 6-6 tie and give the Mountain Lions the lead they would keep the remainder of the set.  Owning a 12-10 lead, UCCS broke the set open on a 10-3 run and scored the final three points of the night.  Ammerman tallied six kills in the final set and hit a staggering .857 on seven attempts.  Defensively, Babcock, Medlin and Geiger each assisted on two blocks.  Four of the Mountain Lions nine blocks tonight came in the final set.
