HOW IT HAPPENED
• UCCS set the tone early inside Suplizio Field by jumping out to a 5-0 in the first inning.
Jaeden Hegmann's 3-for-4 day started with a double down the right field line to score leadoff hitter
Matt McDermott for the first run of the ballgame. The inning was just getting started as
Evan Richards went yard to right field as the redshirt junior sent a ball into the parking lot for a two-run home run. Starting left fielder
Matt Berg and starting second baseman
Nate Heflebower then closed out the inning with an RBI double and single for the 5-0 lead.
• Three more Mountain Lion runs came across in the second and third inning with the help of Ranger miscues as UCCS grabbed an 8-0 lead through three innings of play.
•
Daniel Silva kept the Rangers at bay by striking out two and allowing just one hit in the first three innings. RU was able to plate three runs in the fourth off a three-run homer but Silva bounced back to retire the next three batters to put UCCS back in the batter's box in the home half of the inning.
• In the bottom of the fourth, the Mountain Lions' heavy hitters quickly erased Regis' three runs. Richards picked back up where he left off in the first inning by hitting his second two-run home run of the game for a game high four RBI. Four-hole hitter Anderson then extended his on-base streak to an incredible 37 games by driving a solo home run over the left field wall for back-to-back home runs and an 11-3 lead.
• UCCS proceeded to drive the ball out of the park as starting catcher
Michael Bennin hits his second extra base hit of the game by landing a two-run homer in the left field bleachers in the sixth inning to make it 13-3.
• After Regis' three-run fourth inning, Silva and the Mountain Lions ran through the Ranger lineup by allowing just two hits in the next three innings to end yet another impressive outing for the redshirt senior.
• With the 10-run lead in hand, the Mountain Lions built on top of their lead as Anderson ripped a two-RBI double through the right side.
Aaron Faragallah then burnt the center fielder with an RBI triple as Berg drove in the fourth run of the inning with an RBI single.
• Redshirt Freshman
Braden Barker relieved Silva in his seventh appearance of the season where he had a season best outing by throwing the eighth and ninth inning scoreless to register the 17-3 win.
