Mountain Lions End Regular Season against No. 10 Regis

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's lacrosse team closed out the regular season portion of their 2021 season at home Saturday afternoon against No. 10 Regis University.  The Mountain Lions fell to the Rangers, 17-8.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Less than 90 seconds from the first draw Regis University found the back of the net from Tia Krats.  Mallory Corrigan and the Mountain Lions quickly answered with two straight goals to give UCCS a 2-1 lead.
  • Regis tied the game in the sixth minute before Kiera Lowe found Hannah Koopal for a 3-2 lead as both teams combined to score five goals in five minutes.
  • The Rangers regained the lead, 4-3, 10 minutes into the game and finished the half outscoring UCCS, 8-2.
  • Trailing the Rangers by six at halftime, 11-5, Regis came out in the second half and fired off five straight goals to take a 16-5 lead.
  • UCCS closed the game scoring three of the final four goals as Audrey Napp, Corrigan and Lowe cut into the Rangers lead.
 
STATS FROM THE GAME
  • Corrigan led the offense with a hat trick and took a team high four shots.  Lowe matched Corrigan's shot output and added a goal and an assist.
  • Holly Sodomka and Kyer Frederick each won two draws while Julia Patrick picked up a team high five assists.
  • Madison McGriff (5-2) played the first 44 minutes, making 15 saves before Emma Becker closed the game, notching four saves and allowing just one goal in 16 minutes between the posts.
  • UCCS was outshot by Regis, 43-19.  The Mountain Lions were successful on 18-of-20 clears and picked up six more ground balls than Regis, 19-13.
  • The Rangers' Kyleigh Peoples led both teams with five goals and three assists for eight points.
 
UP NEXT
The Mountain Lions closed the regular season recording the most wins in program history with eight.  The bracket for the 2021 conference tournament will be announced on Sunday, May 2.  The top four teams will qualify for the tournament on May 7 (semifinal) and May 9 (championship).
