Mountain Lions Fall to Westminster 2-1 in RMAC Semifinal

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – No. 8 University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's soccer team loses a tough match to Westminster College on Friday afternoon as the Mountain Lions fall to the Griffins 2-1 in the RMAC Semifinal at Mountain Lion Stadium.

INSIDE THE RMAC SEMIFINAL MATCHUP:
Final: UCCS 1, Westminster 2
Records: UCCS (8-1-0, 5-0-0 RMAC), WC (6-2-2, 3-2-0 RMAC)
Location: Mountain Lion Stadium | Colorado Springs, Colo.
All-Time Series: UCCS leads the all-time series 6-2-1 against Westminster while holding a 1-1-1 record against the Griffins in the RMAC Tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• It was a physical match throughout with both teams not giving an inch in the opening 45 minutes.
• A total of six shots were recorded in the first half as the Griffins out-shot the Mountain Lions 4-2.
• RMAC Player of the Year Tarah Patterson registered both of the Mountain Lions' shots in the first 45 minutes with UCCS' first shot landing on frame in the opening minutes. Patterson came back on the offensive side in the 18th minute to register her second shot and shot on goal of the half but was unable to break the scoreless tie as the Mountain Lions and Griffins went into halftime 0-0.
• Westminster went straight on the attack to start the second half as they matched their first half shot total in the first 15 minutes.
Just as the Griffins seemed to find a break in the Mountain Lions' backline, UCCS caught Westminster out of position as Amelia Junge streamed down the right sideline to find an opening in the field. Junge found Jaden Davis who fed Kaitlin Hinkle at the top of the goalie box where Hinkle created separation to slip a left footed shot inside the far post for the 1-0 lead at 62:09.
But the Mountain Lions saw their only lead of the match slip away in less than a minutes as Westminster netted the equalizer at the 63rd minute, 1-1.
Minutes later, the Griffins secured the lead off a free kick that directly led to the game-winning goal in the 66th minute as WC secured and held on to the 2-1 advantage.

STATS FROM THE DAY
• Westminster outshot UCCS 16-3 while also holding the advantage over the Mountain Lions in corner kicks 6-3 and shots on goal 4-3.
