HOW IT HAPPENED
• It was a thrilling game one between the Mountain Lions and Roadrunners as starting pitchers
Daniel Silva and Logan Soole went toe-to-toe under the lights.
• MSUD got the bats going first as a double to the right center gap off Silva gave the Roadrunners the first lead of the game 1-0 in the first inning.
• UCCS struggled to find a rhythm at the plate as the Mountain Lions were held scoreless through five innings of play with
Aaron Faragallah being left in scoring position after a double in the fourth inning.
• After Silva allowed one run in the first, he went the next two scoreless before a Roadrunner solo home run increased the MSUD lead 2-0 in the fourth inning.
• In the top of the sixth inning, the Mountain Lions put two across to tie the game 2-2 after a slew of Roadrunner errors scored
Walker Rumsey and
Matt McDermott to make it a new ballgame.
• Once Silva got out of the one run fourth inning he held the Roadrunners to no runs through the next four innings while he fanned five MSUD batters.
• With the game tied in the top of the eighth, redshirt senior
Jake Anderson came up big for the Mountain Lions as he delivered a solo home run to left field to put UCCS ahead 3-2.
• Silva and the Mountain Lions would then head into the bottom of the ninth with the lead in hand as they went straight to work to retire the first two Roadrunners by way of groundout and strikeouts for a quick two outs. With two outs the Roadrunners would follow up with back-to-back singles as the second hit was sent to right field to place runners on first and third. MSUD's Jake Barber was the next batter up and put the game away as he hit a three-run home run over the right field fence for the walk-off.
