Colorado Springs, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team ends the day with two losses to South Dakota School of Mines (SDM) and Western Colorado University (WCU) by final scores of 3-2 and 3-1, respectively.

Final: UCCS 2, South Dakota Mines, 3 (25-16, 24-26, 29-27, 24-26, 17-15)

All-Time Series: The Mountain Lions suffered their first ever loss to SDM with today's result, snapping an eight game winning streak.
Match 2
Final: UCCS 1, Western Colorado, 3 (26-28, 22-25, 27-25, 20-25)
Records: UCCS (4-7, 4-5 RMAC), WCU (5-6, 5-6 RMAC)

All-Time Series: UCCS and WCU are now tied in their all-time matchups 23-23. UCCS now has a 7-4 record in the last 10 matchups and a home record of 12-8.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Match 1
- UCCS dominated the first set, totaling 15 kills and a .345 hitting percentage. Lauryn Shockley led the charge with six kills and a .556 hitting percentage. Hannah Ammerman followed suit with four kills of her own and a .429 hitting percentage to give UCCS the 25-16 win.
- SDM bounced back in set two as they edged out UCCS 26-24 behind 14 total kills and four blocks. UCCS totaled 16 kills but committed 12 total errors in the set.
- Set three was the highest scoring set of the day as UCCS outlasted SDM 29-27 behind four kills from Shockley and Maren Burkhart, giving UCCS a 2-1 lead in the match. Each team totaled eight blocks in the set as well.
- The fourth set became the third consecutive set to eclipse the 25-point mark as SDM edged out another hard-fought set, 26-24. The Hardrockers tabbed 13 kills and another four blocks in the set, tying the match at two sets each.
- In the fifth and final set, neither team could gain an edge as was the story throughout the match. In what became the fourth set in a row that went to extra points, SDM came out victorious by a final score of 17-15, effectively taking the match 3-2.
Match 2
- This match followed the trend of the day with close sets and back-and-forth play as WCU was able to edge out UCCS in the first set, 28-26. The Mountain Lions tabbed 17 kills in the set to WCU's 13, but committed 14 total errors that would cost them the set.
- WCU took the second set by a score of 25-22 behind 12 kills and seven blocks, giving them a 2-0 lead in the match.
- UCCS bounced back in the third set with 19 kills, with Lauryn Shockley and Josie Russell each tabbing five kills in the set. Russel notched a .833 hitting percentage in the set with great performance on her senior night! The Mountain Lions would take the set 27-25.
- Unfortunately, UCCS could not carry the momentum any further as they would fall in the fourth and final set by a score of 25-20, giving WCU their second win of the day with a final of 3-1.
STATS FROM THE MATCH
Match 1
- The Mountain Lions totaled 70 kills in the match to SDM's 55, but only managed 12 blocks to the Hardrockers' 24. UCCS also tabbed 63 assists, 67 digs and six aces in the match.
- Maren Burkhart led all players with 20 kills, while Lauryn Shockley and Hannah Ammerman followed suit with 19 kills and 15 kills, respectively.
- Emily Ettel racked up 54 assists in the match, outdoing the entire Hardrocker team by herself.
- Burkhart and Ettel each tabbed two aces in the match to lead all players.
- Grace Ferguson led the Mountain Lions with five block assists and two solo blocks, while adding six kills to the Mountain Lion total.
- Jordyn Kinsey led all players with 21 digs in the match.
Match 2
- UCCS recorded 55 kills, six aces, 50 assists, and 65 digs in the match. The Mountain Lions added 12 total blocks to the stat sheet as well.
- Lauryn Shockley led UCCS with 14 kills, while Jenna Szilagyi added 12 kills and a team high .429 hitting percentage in the match.
- Josie Russell, in her final home game as a Mountain Lion, tabbed six kills, one block assist and a hitting percentage of .308.
- Emily Ettel notched 42 assists in the match while adding three kills and two blocks to the UCCS totals.
- Jordyn Kinsey recorded a game high 26 digs.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- UCCS head coach Chrissy Elder is two wins away from earning her 100th career win at UCCS (98-105). In nine seasons as a collegiate head coach, Elder owns a 105-127 all-time record.

- UCCS will be on the road next Friday, March 26th in Pueblo, Colo. taking on the Colorado State University Pueblo. The match is slated to begin at 7:00 p.m.
