Coming off their first win of the conference season, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team will take a short trip to Air Force for an exhibition game on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., before playing host to No. 19 Colorado School of Mines on Saturday, Dec. 11 at 5:30 p.m.
GAME COVERAGE
LAST TIME OUT
- The Mountain Lions opened the conference season on Friday at No. 24 CSU Pueblo, nearly upsetting the ThunderWolves but ultimately falling short, 54-49. UCCS earned their first RMAC win the following night and their third win of the season at Adams State University, 71-60.
- Against the ThunderWolves, Jasmine Jeffcoat led all players with 14 points after sinking 6-of-10 field goals and pulling in a team high eight rebounds. She added three steals on the defensive end of the court and dished out two assists. Jessica Nation and Shelby Megyeri added 12 points each and combined for five rebounds. Agar Farres stole the ball a game high five times and snagged four rebounds.
- At ASU on Saturday, Jeffcoat finished the night making 6-of-12 field goals and 5-of-6 free throws for 17 points. Eight of her 11 rebounds were on the offensive glass. She also dished out a team high three assists and added two steals. Six of Megyeri's 16 points came from downtown as she made 6-of-10 field goals and 2-of-4 free throws. Megyeri added seven rebounds and matched Jeffcoat for a team high three assists. Nation registered 10 points, four of which came from the free throw line, and added two assists, six caroms and a blocked shot. Three of UCCS' six blocks came by way of Ellie Moore, who came off the bench to net eight points, two assists, five rebounds and three blocks.
- Jeffcoat led the Mountain Lions on the weekend, averaging 15.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. She added a team high five dimes and tied with Farres for the most steals on the weekend (five).
- UCCS out-scored their opponents by three points and out-rebounded them by 8.5 per game.
RMAC RECORD/STANDINGS
- Five teams started the RMAC season with a 2-0 record (Black Hills State University, Chadron State College, Colorado School of Mines, Colorado State Pueblo and Westminster College).
- The Mountain Lions (3-5, 1-1 RMAC) are one of five teams tied for sixth place in the RMAC standings after splitting the first weekend of conference action.
THE SERIES
- Vs. CSM: The Mountain Lions own a 22-20 all-time series lead over the Orediggers since the series began in 1990. UCCS last defeated Mines on Feb. 28, 2020 (70-49).
SCOUTING THE OREDIGGERS
- No. 19 Colorado School of Mines enters the weekend on a four-game winning streak and a 7-1 overall record. The Orediggers are one of five teams to start the conference season 2-0.
- Leading the offense is Denali Pinto with the RMAC's eighth highest scoring average at 13.3 points per game. Pinto has hit a team high 17 threes on 55 attempts (30.9 percent) and has made all but four of her 21 free throws (81.0 percent).
- Sammy Van Sickle is one of the top ball handlers in the league, averaging 4.0 assists per game and a 2.5 assist to turnover ratio (both second in the RMAC). She is also leading the team in rebounding with 7.0 boards per game.
- As a team, Colorado School of Mines is on top of the league in assists (144), assists per game (18.0), offensive rebounds per game (18.0), rebounds (360), steals (132), steals per game (16.5) and turnover margin (8.88).
HOT TAKES
- Head coach Lynn Plett is three wins away from reaching 300 career wins in his 24-year career.
- The 51 rebounds on Saturday at ASU matches a season high for UCCS, while their six blocked shots are the most in 2021-22.
- In Saturday's win, the Mountain Lions never trailed or tied the Grizzlies, making it the first time this season they have led the entire game.
- UCCS has out-rebounded their opponent six times and have shot better than 40 percent from the floor in four games.
- Sophie Abela tallied a career high two blocks on Saturday, while Dominguez' seven rebounds were a career high. Megyeri also added career highs against the Grizzlies in points (16) and made field goals (six).
- Jeffcoat's double-double was her first of the season and second of her career.
- UCCS' 186 free throw attempts this season are the most in the RMAC and 12th most in Division II. They're ranked in the top 20 in the nation in rebounds (18th) and second in the league with 357.
- The Mountain Lions are one of the top defensive and rebounding teams in the RMAC, ranking third in blocks (26), defensive rebounds per game (28.6), rebound margin (9.6), offensive rebounds per game (16.0), and rebounds per game (44.62).
- Jeffcoat's field goal percentage (62.5 percent) and 3.9 offensive rebounds per game are tops in the league. She is also second in the RMAC in field goals made (40) and fifth in rebounds (50).
- Abela is one of the top 10 court generals in the RMAC, ranking sixth in assists (25) and ninth in assist turnover ratio (.93) and assists per game (3.1).
UCCS UNDER HEAD COACH LYNN PLETT
- Lynn Plett is in his sixth season as head coach of the Mountain Lions in 2021-22, and his 24th season overall. He owns a career record of 297-342 and a 66-75 record at UCCS.
- UCCS has been named to the WBCA Top 25 Team Academic Honor Roll for four straight years. Plett guided the Mountain Lions to their first RMAC championship title in program history in his first season in 2016-17, and their third NCAA Tournament appearance.
- Plett has coached at St. Joseph's (1994-95 to 2001-02), Lewis (2002-03 to 2006-07), and Missouri Western State (2007-08 to 2011-12) prior to joining the Mountain Lions.

- UCCS will play two road games before the Holiday break when they travel Northeast to take on Chadron State College and Black Hills State University on Dec. 18-19. Both games will tip-off at 2 p.m.
