All-Time Series: UCCS maintains an undefeated record against NNMC with their fifth win in as many meetings.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- It was a fairly even matchup from tip-off as both teams were within seven points of each other for the entirety of the first half. UCCS got out to their largest lead in the first half when Alijah Comithier hit a 2-point jumper to put the Mountain Lions up 26-19.
- The Eagles were able to keep pace with the Mountain Lions going into halftime as NNMC held their largest lead of the game with less than a minute to go in the first half. UCCS did not stay behind for long as Jon'il Fugett hit a 3-point shot to bring them within one. After a NNMC free throw, the Mountain Lions stormed down the court and Wyatt Dolberry was able to sink a buzzer-beating jumper inside the paint to even the score at 43's.
- It was a story of long runs for the Mountain Lions coming out of halftime as they opened the second half with a 20-1 run. This included a streak of 17 unanswered points, the best scoring run of the game for either side.
- UCCS was able to lock down on defense as they limited NNMC to only 24 points in the second half. This allowed the Mountain Lions to be effective with the ball in their hands as they capped off an enormous scoring display with a layup from Noah Baca to give them their largest lead of the night as they went up 96-63 with :36 remaining in the game.
STATS FROM THE GAME:
- Four Mountain Lions tallied double-digit points in the game with Jon'il Fugett leading the pack with 18 points. He was perfect from beyond the arc as he made all three of his 3-point attempts and shot 70% from the field overall. He also led the team with seven assists.
- Both teams had a nearly identical shooting percentage in the first half as they both made nearly half of their shots. The Mountain Lions continued to get shots to fall through the second half as their shooting percentage for the game ended at 52.2% with the Eagles' shooting percentage falling to 38.3%.
- The Mountain Lions out-rebounded the Eagles 46-30 with Jezza McKenzie bringing in the most boards on the night with six.
- Alijah Comithier was on the floor the longest for the Mountain Lions as he tallied 26 minutes. He also racked up 16 points shooting 66.6% from the field with four rebounds.
- Bobby martin was an important piece coming off the bench as he scored 13 points and was 3-5 on 3-point field goals.
