THIS WEEK'S GAMES
UCCS will stay close to home for this weekend's game as they head to Pueblo, Colo. for the Colorado State University Pueblo Thanksgiving Classic. UCCS will take on two NAIA schools, beginning with Friends University on Friday at 1 p.m., and University of the Southwest on Saturday at 1 p.m.
GAME COVERAGE
LAST TIME OUT
- The Mountain Lions played their first home games of the season this past weekend, hosting Texas A&M-Kingsville (L, 57-59) and Regis University (L, 63-81).
- Jasmine Jeffcoat led the offense with 12 points after shooting a solid .769 from the floor (10-of-13). She also stole the ball a team high three teams and dished out three assists.
- Freshman Maison White chipped in 18 points in the two games while pulling down a team high 15 points and blocking a team high three shots.
- The Mountain Lions shot 51.6 percent (49-of-95) on their home court, besting the opponents' 41.3 field goal shooting mark (50-of-121). UCCS also out-rebounded the Javelinas and Rangers by nearly 10 boards per game (36.5-27.0 rebounds per game), but the Mountain Lions committed twice as many turnovers as the visitors (50-24).
RMAC RECORD/STANDINGS
- With one weekend left in the preseason portion of the 2021-22 schedule, Colorado Mesa University is the lone team without a loss at 3-0. Regis University and Colorado School of Mines will kick off the RMAC season next Tuesday, Nov. 30.
THE SERIES
- This weekend will mark the first time in program history the Mountain Lions have faced Friends University and University of the Southwest.
SCOUTING THE FALCONS
- Friends University (Wichita, Kan.) holds a 3-2 record in the first part of the season. The Falcons have gained wins against Barclay College, Missouri Valley and Avila while falling to College of the Ozarks and Bethany.
- As a team, Friends is averaging 71.4 points, 45 rebounds and 15 assists per game while shooting the ball at a 39.7 percent rate and 27.4 percent from long range.
- The Falcons are led in scoring by junior Carrie Lace with 12.4 points per game, while freshman Taylor Jackson leads the FU in rebounds (7.8 per game) and field goal percentage (24-of-39, 61.4 percent) to go with her 11.8 points per game.
SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS
- University of the Southwest (Hobbs, N.M.) enters the weekend 1-6 overall, gaining their lone win against Texas Lutheran University.
- The Mustangs are averaging less than 60 points per game (58.6) and are pulling in 37.1 rebounds per game and dishing out an average of 12.1 assists per contest.
- Isabel Rodriguez leads USW with 11.9 points, 9.3 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game while hitting on 35.6 percent of her field goals. Also averaging double digits in scoring is Harlei Haceesa with 11.7 points per game and a team high 52.5 field goal percentage.
HOT TAKES
- Through four games this season, White is the league leader in blocked shots (eight), field goal percentage (.645), rebounds (32) and offensive rebounds per game (4.2). Her 2.00 blocked shots per game is the second highest average in the RMAC, while her 8.0 rebounds per game is the fourth highest.
- Sophie Abela is one of the top court managers in the league, ranking second in assists (14), fifth in assists per game (3.5) and eighth in assist-turnover ratio (1.00).
- Ines Latapia has stolen the ball nine times this season, an average of 2.25 steals per game, ranking her third and a fifth in the league, respectively.
- The Mountain Lions are one of the top rebounding and defensive teams in the early part of the season. UCCS is second in the league in blocks (13), rebounds (172) and offensive rebounds per game (16.0). Their 86 free throw attempts are the third most in the league while their 43.0 rebounds per game and 9.5 rebounding margin rank the Mountain Lions fourth out of the 15-team league.
UCCS UNDER HEAD COACH LYNN PLETT
- Lynn Plett is in his sixth season as head coach of the Mountain Lions in 2021-22, and his 24th season overall. He owns a career record of 294-341 and a 63-74 record at UCCS.
- UCCS has been named to the WBCA Top 25 Team Academic Honor Roll for four straight years.
- Plett guided the Mountain Lions to their first RMAC championship title in program history in his first season in 2016-17, and their third NCAA Tournament appearance. The 2021-22 season is Plett's 24th season as a head coach (294-337).
- Plett has coached at St. Joseph's (1994-95 to 2001-02), Lewis (2002-03 to 2006-07), and Missouri Western State (2007-08 to 2011-12) prior to joining the Mountain Lions.
UPCOMING GAMES
- The Mountain Lions will open the conference season on the road Dec. 3-4. UCCS will head back down to Pueblo to take on the ThunderWolves on Friday, Dec. 3, before heading over to Alamosa to face the Grizzlies on Dec. 4. Both games will tipoff at 5:30 p.m.
