COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – No. 9 University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's soccer advances to the third round of the NCAA Tournament after a dominating shutout performance over No. 20 Mines on Sunday afternoon, 2-0.

Series: UCCS improves their record to 7-17-1 and currently hold a two game win streak against Mines.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Mountain Lions claimed the third matchup of the season and began the second clean sheet win over the Orediggers this season by scoring two first half goals and limiting Mines to only three shots in the opening 45 minutes.
• UCCS fired off six shots before finding their first score as a corner kick helped setup a 1-0 advantage in the 26
th minute. Off the corner,
Jade Kinsey broke in to receive a shallow pass that was given back to
Tarah Patterson who found
Makayla Merlo on the cross to have it headed in for the double assist score.
• The offense kept the pressure on by pushing the Orediggers back on their heels once again with the Mountain Lions' second score in five minutes. Another double assist goal started with
Bri Johnson who came off the bench to make a defender miss as she found
Makenna Fowler who connected with Patterson on a cross to finish with a left-footed strike into the top corner of net.
• Mines was able to get one more shot off after UCCS jumped out to a commanding 2-0 lead but the Mountain Lion defense had yet to allow a shot on frame after one half of play.
• A dominating first half performance by the UCCS defense carried into the second half as the Mountain Lions held on tight to their 2-0 lead and kept the Orediggers out of frame to cement the NCAA Tournament Round Two win.
STATS FROM THE DAY:
• UCCS outshot Mines 12-7 with the Mountain Lions also holding the advantage in shots on goal, 5-1.
• Makayla Merlo paced UCCS with four shots while tying
Tarah Patterson for a game high in shots on goal with two.
• Patterson posts three points in the match with an assist on the game-winning goal and netting her ninth goal of the season.
• Defenders
Makenna Fowler and
Jade Kinsey showed their versatility by registering an assist each while also tallying a full 90 minutes on the pitch.
• Three other Mountain Lions notched full time with
Katie Puchino,
Ella Fischer, and Merlo not leaving the field.
• Alexis Walker remains undefeated in frame with an improved 8-0-0 record and one save in the win.
BEYOND THE BOX:
• UCCS advances to the third round of the NCAA Tournament for the second time in program history.
• UCCS extends their win streak to nine straight games and register their 10
th shutout of the year.
• The Mountain Lions record their second shutout win in an NCAA Tournament game as they hold a perfect 2-0 record against the Orediggers on the national stage.
• UCCS held the Orediggers to their lowest shots on goal count on the season (one).

• No. 9 UCCS will now face No. 5 Dallas Baptist University in the third round for the NCAA South Central Region Championship game on Thursday, Dec. 2 as they travel to Dallas, Texas.
