PREVIEW | No. 9 UCCS Awaits Regis in RMAC Championship Match

Last Time Out
  • The Mountain Lions came out on the winning end of a thrilling RMAC Semifinal match on Wednesday as they took down No. 20 Colorado School of Mines at a final score of 1-0. It was an early second half goal that gave UCCS the win as Tori Maydew connected with Tarah Patterson on a shallow back pass that Patterson netted for the game-winner in the 50th minute.
 
National/Regional Rankings
  • The Mountain Lions moved up one spot on Tuesday in United Soccer Coaches' Division II National Poll by receiving the No. 9 ranking in the nation.
  • From the RMAC, Colorado School of Mines remains at No. 20 in the country with Westminster College receiving votes.
  • In NCAA's final week of regional rankings, the Mountain Lions were selected No. 2 in the South Central Region.
  • No. 5 Dallas Baptist University remains atop the regional standings with a 16-2 overall record and 14-2 in-region record.
  • The RMAC and the Lone Star Conference comprise the South Central Region where the top six teams out of the region will receive a berth to the NCAA Tournament. Winners of the RMAC and Lone Star Conference tournaments each receive an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
  • The NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Selection Show will air Monday, Nov. 15 at 4:00 p.m. (MT) where teams will be announced for the national tournament.
 
The Series
  • Saturday will serve as the 16th all-time matchup between UCCS and Regis with the Rangers holding the advantage in the series with a 10-5 record. The Mountain Lions have won the last four matchups with UCCS taking the win earlier this season with a 3-2 overtime win.
  • UCCS and Regis will matchup for the first time in the women's soccer conference tournament in RMAC Tournament history.
 
Scouting Regis
  • The No. 4 seeded Regis Rangers (14-5, 9-3 RMAC) are riding a three-game win streak into the conference championship as their last loss came on Oct. 28 against UCCS.
  • RU ended their regular season with a key win over No. 20 Mines as the Rangers went on to beat CSU Pueblo in the RMAC Quarterfinal, 4-1, then going on to defeat No. 1 seed Colorado Mesa 3-0 in the semifinal.
  • All-RMAC First Team selection Kelby Kuo leads the conference in points with 37 off a team high 14 goals and nine assists. Close to half of her 63 shots have been on goal (31) as Kuo has also recorded the conference's second most game-winning goals (four).
  • Fellow all-conference first teamer Sarah Wynn is also a big part of the conference's second highest scoring offense with an RMAC high 14 assists as she adds four goals for 22 points on the year.
  • Defensively, the Rangers have surrendered 25 goals this season with goalkeeper Katelyn responsible for 24 of those for a 1.35 GAA. Martin has registered four shutouts this season and holds a .753 save percentage with 73 saves off 220 shots faced.
 
Hot Takes
  • The Mountain Lions host their second RMAC Tournament Championship in three seasons as they also make their fourth conference championship appearance in the last five seasons.
  • The top two scoring offenses in the conference are matched up in the championship game with UCCS averaging 2.85 goals per game and Regis averaging 2.74.
  • In frame, Alexis Walker maintains a perfect 6-0 record this season with three of her four shutouts coming in the last four games.
  • UCCS has not allowed a first half score for 10 straight matches.
  • Redshirt senior Tori Maydew has registered a career high six assists this season and is tied for the seventh most all-time assists in program history with 10.
  • Midfielder Ella Fischer has played in all three of the program's conference championship games and is set to make her fourth championship appearance on Saturday.
  • The Mountain Lions hold a six-game win streak where they have outscored the opposition 20-5 with four shutouts.
  • Head Coach J. B. Belzer is set to face his former team for the third time in his career as he holds a 2-0 record over the Rangers. Belzer has also won five RMAC Tournament Championships in his career as he aims for his sixth.

  • Saturday's forecast is calling for a mostly cloudy day and a high of 64 degrees at game time. Currently there is no chance of precipitation with winds reaching as high as 11 miles-per-hour over the course of the match.

  • Head coach J. B. Belzer enters his second season at the helm for UCCS and 26th season as a Division II head coach after spending 24 seasons at Regis University.
  • Belzer holds a 341-150-37 record for the seventh most wins in NCAA Division II Women's Soccer history.

  • On Monday, the Mountain Lions will see where they stand in the NCAA Regional Tournament with the NCAA Selection Show airing at 4 p.m. (MT) on ncaa.com. The first round of NCAA Regionals are slated to begin on Friday, Nov. 19.
