PREVIEW | No. 9 Mountain Lions Set the Stage to Host No. 20 Mines in RMAC Semifinals

Last Time Out
  • The Mountain Lions advanced past the RMAC Quarterfinals for the fifth consecutive season after edging out Metropolitan State University of Denver at a final score of 1-0 on Sunday. UCCS recorded their eighth shutout of the season as midfielder Ella Fischer netted the game-winner for her second goal and second game-winning goal of the season.
RMAC Records/Standings
  • For the RMAC Semifinal round, No. 1 seed Colorado Mesa University will host No. 4 seed Regis University in Grand Junction, Colo. at 6 p.m. tonight.
  • The highest remaining seed after today's games will host the RMAC Championship game this weekend on either Saturday, Nov. 13 or Sunday, Nov. 14.
National/Regional Rankings
  • The Mountain Lions move up one spot in United Soccer Coaches' Division II National Poll by receiving the No. 9 ranking in the nation.
  • From the RMAC, Colorado School of Mines remains at No. 20 in the country with Westminster College receiving votes.
  • In NCAA's final week of regional rankings, the Mountain Lions were selected No. 2 in the South Central Region.
  • The RMAC and the Lone Star Conference comprise the South Central Region where the top six teams out of the region will receive a berth to the NCAA Tournament. Winners of the RMAC and Lone Star Conference tournaments each receive an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
  • The NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Selection Show will air Monday, Nov. 15 at 4:00 p.m. (MT) where teams will be announced for the national tournament.
The Series
  • UCCS and Colorado School of Mines faceoff in their 23rd all-time match against one another with the Mountain Lions trailing in the all-time series at a 5-16-1 record.
  • The Orediggers have won the previous two matchups as they came away with a thrilling 2-1 win over UCCS back on Oct. 17 with all three scores happening in the final 12 minutes.
Scouting Colorado School of Mines
  • Colorado School of Mines (12-3-4, 9-2-1 RMAC) survived a no result contest against Westminster in the RMAC Quarterfinals as the Orediggers won in PKs, 3-0.
  • RMAC Freshman of the Year Reese McDermott leads the team in goals (eight) and points (18) with Emma Peterson (12) and Emi Higgins (10) also posting double digit points.
  • RMAC Goalkeeper of the Year Sierra Roth has been a wall in frame with an RMAC best GAA of .565 as she also leads the conference in save percentage (.882) and shutouts (8).
  • As a team, Colorado School of Mines has allowed the conference's least amount of goals with 11.
Hot Takes
  • The Mountain Lions make their fifth consecutive RMAC Semifinal appearance.
  • UCCS continues to lead the conference in scoring offense with 2.95 goals per game as the Mountain Lions also rank 12th in the nation.
  • A total of 17 different Mountain Lions have at least one goal on the season with Makayla Merlo leading the way with 8.
  • UCCS' offense holds top-15 national rankings in total assists (43, 10th), total goals (56, seventh), and total points (155, eighth).

  • Head coach J. B. Belzer enters his second season at the helm for UCCS and 26th total season as a Division II head coach after spending 24 seasons at Regis University.
  • Belzer holds a 340-150-37 record for the seventh most wins in NCAA Division II Women's Soccer history.

  • The winner of tonight's match will move on to play in the RMAC Championship game this weekend. The Mountain Lions will also await to here where they land in the NCAA Regionals with the first round beginning on Friday, Nov. 19.
