HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The opening 45 minutes of Wednesday's semifinal mirrored their regular season matchup as a scoreless first half consisted of 14 combined shots and a pair of shots on goal from both the Mountain Lions and Orediggers.
• After owning six of the 14 first half shots,
Tarah Patterson and the Mountain Lions found their window against the conference's top defense in the 50
th minute as
Tori Maydew fed a shallow pass to Patterson in the box who maneuvered through traffic to fire in the game-winning goal.
• Patterson's goal represented the only score of the game as UCCS' defense stood strong to withstand the Oredigger's attack that fired off six shots and posted four corner kicks after the early second half goal.
• In the final three minutes, Mines landed their only shot on goal for the half in their final attempt to find the equalizer but
Alexis Walker and the rest of the UCCS defense held on to maintain and claim the 1-0 win.
STATS FROM THE DAY:
• UCCS outshot Mines 17-11 and registered seven shots on goal to the Orediggers' three.
• Alexis Walker bagged three saves and her fourth shutout in the win as
Tarah Patterson,
Makenna Fowler,
Katie Puchino, and
Zoe Sims never left the pitch to help lay claim to the team's ninth team shutout.
• Patterson notched a game high as well as season high nine shots with
Makayla Merlo landing all three of her shots on frame to tie Patterson for the game high in shots on goal.
• Goalkeeper
