Mountain Lions Swept at Regis

DENVER, Colo. – Facing Regis University for the second time this season, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team fell to the Rangers, 3-0, Friday night at Regis Fieldhouse in Denver, Colo.

  • Final Score: 0-3 (19-25, 16-25, 12-25)

  • All-Time Series: Regis has won the last nine matches against UCCS to take an all-time series lead, 43-7.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Regis served up the first three points on the night and never trailed in the opening set to snag a 25-19 win.  A kill from Maren Burkhart halfway through the set brought UCCS within one point, 15-14, but the Rangers finished the set on a 10-5 run.  Grace Ferguson led the offense with four kills and a block.  Regis' Caitlyn Burroway buried seven kills to lead both teams.
  • In the second set, back-to-back kills by Hannah Ammerman and Ferguson gave the Mountain Lions a quick 2-0 lead.  Regis responded to score the next four points as they held onto the lead for the remainder of the set.  Ammerman accounted for four of UCCS' 12 kills as RU edged the Mountain Lions in total kills, 13-12.
  • UCCS took charge to start the third set.  After two kills from Hannah Ammerman and three errors by Regis, the Mountain Lions grabbed a 5-1 lead.  The Rangers responded with three aces, three kills and four errors by UCCS to go on a 10- run and take the lead, 11-5.  Regis utilized another 5-0 run later in the set to take an 11-point lead, 20-9, and bag the match win, 20-12.
 
MATCH STATISTICS
  • Ammerman hit a solid .353 behind seven kills and only one error on 17 attempts to lead the UCCS offense.  Burkhart and Ferguson each chipped in six kills.  Ferguson led the defense at the net with two block assists and a solo block.
  • Emily Ettel notched all 22 set assists for UCCS and added two digs and two kills. 
  • Jordyn Kinsey registered half of UCCS' digs, accounting for nine of the team's 18 digs.
  • UCCS finished the night with 28 kills, a .133 hitting percentage and three blocks.
  • Halle Thies and Burroway led both teams with 12 and 11 kills, respectively.  Nadine Burbrink defended the net with four blocks and one solo block.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Tonight's win over UCCS gave the Rangers the season sweep over the Mountain Lions.
 
UP NEXT
  • The Mountain Lions will begin a four-match homestand next weekend, beginning Oct. 15-16 against Western Colorado University and Fort Lewis College.
