No. 15 Mountain Lions Net Three First Half Goals in Route to 4-0 Shutout Over CCU

LAKEWOOD, Colo. – No. 15 University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's soccer clinches home field for the RMAC Quarterfinals next weekend as the Mountain Lions shut out Colorado Christian University, 4-0.
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

Series: UCCS extends their win streak to four games against Regis as the Mountain Lions hold a 16-2-1 all-time record.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• UCCS' top goal scorers of the season got the day started for the Mountain Lions as a Tarah Patterson free kick crossed into the box for Makayla Merlo to head it in for the 1-0 lead in the 28th minute.  
• The Mountain Lions' impressive first half continued with a set piece from Amelia Junge in the 35th minute as Katie Puchino headed in the second UCCS score.
Just two minutes later, freshman Jadyn LeDoux capped off the Mountain Lions' scoring in the opening 45 minutes by showing off her ball handling skills and threading a shot bottom right under an extended goalkeeper to increase the UCCS lead, 3-0.
• CCU struggled to find offensive movement in the first half with the Mountain Lions limiting the Cougars to three first half shots as they kept CCU scoreless.
• After assisting on the first score of the match, Patterson collected a deep Zoe Sims pass and fired a perfect shot into the top right corner of frame to put the Mountain Lions up 4-0 in the 50th minute.
• From there, the UCCS defense continued to work on the CCU offense as the Mountain Lions kept the Cougars at bay by allowing three shots through the second half and claiming the shutout victory.

STATS FROM THE DAY:
The Mountain Lions outshot the Cougars (26-5) in the contest while also holding the advantage in corner kicks (6-1) and shots on goal (11-5).
• Six Mountain Lions tallied a point in the win with Tarah Patterson recording a game high three points. The graduate student also recorded a game high eight shots and three shots on goal.
Alexis Walker garners the shutout win in frame as she registers five saves in her third win of the season.

BEYOND THE BOX:
• UCCS notches home field advantage for the RMAC Quarterfinals on Sunday, Nov. 7 and currently sit third in the conference standings with 27 points.
• Makayla Merlo and Tarah Patterson are now tied for the team lead in goals with Merlo registering her first career game-winning goal.
• The Mountain Lions net a season high three goals in the first half as they win their fourth consecutive game.

UP NEXT:
• UCCS Women's Soccer will closeout their regular season on Wednesday, Nov. 3 at 6 p.m. with a home match against Colorado State University Pueblo.
