GOLDEN, Colo. – Facing the No. 12 ranked team in the nation, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team had their two-match win streak snapped Saturday night at Colorado School of Mines, 3-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Orediggers controlled the match from the beginning after taking the opening set, 25-16. Mines outnumbered UCCS in kills (13-9) and hitting percentage, holding UCCS to a .031 mark. Camden Strain registered four of UCCS' nine kills and hit .222. Lauryn Shockley matched Strain's hitting mark after tallying three kills on nine attempts.
- The Mountain Lions started the second set with a 1-0 lead after Shockley gave UCCS their first lead of the night. Strain went on to add two kills and Hannah Ammerman chipped in a kill as UCCS' first four points came on the offensive attack while keeping a 4-3 lead. The Orediggers would serve up an ace to take their first lead of the set, 5-4, as they went on to keep UCCS from retaking the lead. A ball handling error by CSM brought UCCS within two points of striking distance, 22-20, but the Orediggers put the second set away after accumulating three straight points from a kill, an ace and a UCCS attacking error.
- Colorado School of Mines kept the momentum going in the third set, holding UCCS to three kills and four attacking errors for a -.077 hitting percentage. Conversely, Mines hit .647 behind 12 kills and one error on 17 attacks while adding 10 assists. CSM served their seventh aces of the set to end the match, 25-9.
MATCH STATISTICS
- Shockley and Strain combined for 17 of UCCS' 25 kills. Shockley finished the match with nine kills, a .238 hitting mark and four digs. Strain added eight kills on a .235 attack percent for eight points.
- Emily Ettel posted 19 of the Mountain Lions 24 assists. Defensively, Jordyn Kinsey tallied a team high six digs and served two of the Mountain Lions three aces.
- UCCS registered 25 kills, hit .095, blocked two attacks and dug up 22 attacks.
- The Orediggers hit .434 behind 40 kills, seven errors and 76 attempts. They added 11 aces, 36 assists, seven blocks and 27 digs.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The nine points are the second fewest points scored in a match this season.
UP NEXT
- UCCS will close out their home season Nov. 5-6 against Black Hills State University and South Dakota School of Mines. Friday's action will start at 7 p.m. against the Yellow Jackets before Saturday's Senior Night match at 5 p.m.
