Women’s Basketball Falls to Orediggers, 80-47

GOLDEN, Colo. – In a rare Monday afternoon contest, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team lost an 80-47 decision at Colorado School of Mines in Lockridge Arena.  The two teams were originally scheduled to play Dec. 12, 2020, but the game was rescheduled due to COVID-19 testing and protocols.

All-Time Series: UCCS holds a 22-20 all-time series lead over CSM.  The Mountain Lions last win at Mines was Feb. 24, 2017 (W, 74-63).
 

HOW IT HAPPENED
Colorado School of Mines hit the first bucket of the game 12 seconds after tip-off before Anna Davern countered with her first basket of the game to knot the game, 2-2.
 
After nearly three minutes of scoreless action, Mines regained the lead, 4-2, and would not relinquish it the remainder of the game.
 
Down 16-8 after one quarter of play, the Mountain Lions were held to one basket in the final five minutes of the first half as Mines outscored UCCS, 16-2.
 
UCCS attempted only two free throws in the first half but were nearly perfect in the second half, making 10-of-11 attempts.
 
The Mountain Lions were outrebounded by 21 boards (48-27).  Mines outscored UCCS on second chance points, 18-0, as they collected 12 more offensive rebounds.
 

STATS FROM THE GAME
Davern led UCCS with 10 points and six rebounds.  She made 4-of-6 from the floor and snagged all six rebounds on the defensive glass.
 
Mercy Gonzalez came off the bench as the second leading scorer for UCCS with seven points.  She also registered three rebounds, a steal and blocked one shot.
 
UCCS finished the game shooting 32.1 percent from the floor (17-53), 11.1 percent from three-point range (2-18), and 84.6 percent from the charity stripe (11-13).
 
Liz Holter led five Mines players in double figures with 17 points and four assists. 
 
CSM netted 33-of-73 field goals (45.2 percent) and 9-of-11 free throws (81.8 percent).
 
 
UP NEXT
UCCS will held North again for two more games later this week.  The Mountain Lions will play at MSU Denver on Thursday, Jan. 21 at 5:30 p.m., and at Colorado Christian on Saturday, Jan. 23 at 5 p.m.
