Mountain Lions Win Second Straight Home Meet

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's cross country team won their second race in a row on Friday night in the UCCS XC Open.  The Mountain Lions battled against Metropolitan State University, Denver, Colorado Christian University and Chadron State College at the Cherokee Ridge Golf Course in Colorado Springs, Colo.

WOMEN'S 5K RACE HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Mountain Lions take home their second consecutive win as they record 25 points at the UCCS XC Open, besting MSU Denver (40 points) Colorado Christian (71 points) and Chadron State (112 points). Hannah Ellis was the top finisher for UCCS for the second race in a row as she took home third with a time of 19:14.60. She was followed by Layla Almasri (4th, 19:15.10), Maia Austin (5th, 19:46.90) and Jenny Smith (6th, 19:51.80). The Mountain Lions took home eight of the top 10 spots in the race.
  • The Roadrunner's Alden Grudiel and Erin Norton finished in 1st and 2nd place, respectively. Grudiel crossed the finish line with a time of 19:06.50, followed by Norton at 19:07.50.
 
 
BEYOND THE FINISH LINE
  • This race marks the first time UCCS has competed at the Cherokee Ridge Golf Course compared to their home course, Monument Valley Park.  The spectator-friendly course was designed with 1K loops.
 
UP NEXT
  • The Mountain Lions will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 9 when they travel to Canyon, Texas for the WTAMU Stampede 6K race. The race is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. (MT) at West Texas A&M's home course -The Range.
