Mountain Lions Sweep RMAC Cross Country Runner of the Week Awards

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – In the first selections of the 2020 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Cross Country Runner of the Week awards, Hannah Ellis and Afewerki Zeru of the University of Colorado Colorado Springs cross country programs have been voted the RMAC Women's and Men's Cross Country Runners of the Week, respectively.
 
A junior from Greeley, Colo., Hannah Ellis recorded a career top time in the 5K with a mark of 18:06.1 to win the 2020 UCCS Rust Buster Invite on Sept. 4 at Monument Valley Park.  Ellis and the Mountain Lions bested Fort Lewis College in the dual meet, 17-46.
 
Afewerki Zeru (Colorado Springs, Colo.) started the 2020 season off with an individual title at the UCCS Rust Buster, crossing the finish line ahead of 32 competitors in 25:23.7, helping the Mountain Lions to a perfect score over Fort Lewis College, 48-15.
 
UCCS will return to competition on Friday, Sept. 18 in a home meet against Chadron State College, Colorado Christian University and MSU Denver.  The 2020 UCCS XC Open will be held at Cherokee Ridge Golf Course.
