COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Mercy Gonzalez, a transfer from Eastern Florida State College, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball for the Mountain Lions, announced today by University of Colorado Colorado Springs head women's basketball coach
Lynn Plett.
A native of Miami, Fla., Gonzalez graduated from John A. Ferguson High School in 2018 before attending EFSC from 2018-20. She received an Associates of Science degree from Eastern Florida this past spring.
"Mercy is an energetic wing player who can play multiple positions on offense and can effectively defend about anybody on defense," said Plett. "Her experience of playing on a successful and highly competitive junior college team, along with her competitive attitude, has given her the experience which will enable her to have an immediate impact on our team. I am thrilled to add another high energy player like Mercy to our team and am confident that she will be a great addition to our team both on and off the court."
A 5-foot-11 guard, Gonzalez played in 57 games for the Titans and started 43 games in her two years at EFSC. She averaged 5.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.2 steals per game while shooting the ball at a 43.9 percent rate (125-of-285). This past season, Gonzalez started 26 of 30 games for the Titans, accounting for 179 points, 144 rebounds, 50 assists, 39 steals and 13 blocks.
Gonzalez joins Selena Cudney, Emily Doolitte and Jessica Nation in this year's signing class.
