LUBBOCK, Texas – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs softball team played their first games of the 2020 season on Friday in Lubbock, Texas, at the Lubbock Sports College Invitational. The Mountain Lions lost the season opener to Fort Hays State University, 14-10, and were held scoreless in the afternoon game against Lubbock Christian University, 10-0 (five innings).
In the first inning against LCU, the Mountain Lions tallied three hits from
Brianna Santos,
Payton Romines and
Peyton Reisman but exited the inning with bases loaded. UCCS was held to two hits and two three-and-out innings in the final four stanzas.
Playing on their home field, the LCU Chaps snagged an 8-0 lead after two innings behind three home runs. LCU tacked on two more runs in the fourth inning from a throwing error and a single RBI.
Santos led the UCCS offense after going 2-for-3 at the plate. Defensively, Reisman collected four putouts at first base.
Braelyne Crenshaw pitched all four innings for UCCS, surrendering nine earned runs on eight hits.
Stats against the FHSU Tigers are not yet available.
The Mountain Lions wills start Saturday's action at 9 a.m. (MT) against Nebraska-Kearney and will close the day against St. Edward's University at 4 p.m. (MT).
