PUEBLO, Colo. – Janaiya Davis drilled a three-pointer with one second left in regulation to hand the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team a 59-56 loss Friday night in Pueblo, Colo. The setback moves the Mountain Lions to 7-17 overall and 6-12 in conference games. CSU-Pueblo improves to 6-17 on the season (5-13 RMAC).
Madison Lord hit her ninth field goal of the game with two minutes left in regulation to break a 54-54 tie and give UCCS a two-point lead. The Pack grabbed a defensive rebound that led to a layup from Kansas Watts to knot the game at 56 all with 35 ticks remaining in regulation. Davis took a step back three from the right side of the court, handing UCCS a three-point loss.
UCCS trailed the ThunderWolves after one half of action, 34-26, but came back strong in the second half to put up 30 points to the Pack's 25.
UCCS sank 11 field goals in each half and finished the game sinking 22-of-55 (40 percent) but were held to 1-of-7 from three-point range (14.3 percent) and 11-of-18 from the charity stripe (61.1 percent).
Including Davis' game-winning three-pointer, the Pack made 10-of-26 from downtown and 21-of-65 from the floor (32.3 percent).
Lord came off the bench to score a game-high 19 points from 9-of-10 field goals. She accounted for 19 of UCCS' 39 bench points while CSU-Pueblo's bench totaled 17 points.
Madi Gaibler also came off the bench to contribute 12 points, four rebounds, an assist, block and a steal.
Makenna Baker dished out a team high four assists to go with five points, two rebounds and a steal.
Ellie Moore chipped in four points – all from the charity stripe – and pulled in eight rebounds.
Four ThunderWolves scored in double figures behind Olivia Klaman's team high 15 points.
The Mountain Lions will travel to New Mexico Highlands University on Saturday at 5 p.m. for their final regular season road game.
